“I need some new packaging for the shrapnel bombs. All the stuff I have is too hard and the shrapnel doesn’t spread when it bursts. What we need is some really thin animal hide. Those jormungar tunnelers to the west might work… or perhaps the condors sifting through the dragon bones. Go get me whatever you can find.”

Story Context
Zivlix needs thin hides to wrap his shrapnel bombs. Harder materials don’t let the shrapnel spread on detonation, so he needs something flexible. Upon turn-in, he discovers his ice shards from Shaved Ice are melting, which sets up the chain’s final quest.

Vikstone's War Journal“I need some new packaging for the shrapnel bombs,” Zivlix said. “All the stuff I have is too hard and the shrapnel doesn’t spread when it bursts. What we need is some really thin animal hide.”

So the ice shards would spread more effectively when they detonated inside someone?
“Those jormungar tunnelers to the west might work,” he continued, “or perhaps the condors sifting through the dragon bones. Go get me whatever you can find.”
The Dragon Wastes offered both in abundance. Jormungar Tunnelers burrowed, their segmented bodies covered in hide that was surprisingly thin given their bulk. The Dragonbone Condors flew overhead, picking at the remains scattered across the landscape.
I worked through both. The tunnelers fought back with acid and crushing coils. The condors dove with talons extended, screeching fury. Neither proved difficult, just tedious. Skinning in the cold, fingers going numb, gathering hide for bombs I’d never see deployed.
Zivlix barely glanced at the pile I dropped on his workbench. “Good… good… these should do fine. The shrapnel bombs are almost finished. Wait… what happened to my ice shards?”
He stared at the puddle where the elementals’ shards had been.
“Narf told me shards from those elementals should be enchanted, but they’re melting just like the ones hanging from Narf’s grumpy chin!”
The hides are sorted and Zivlix’s ice shards have a melting problem, which is what carries the chain along to Something That Doesn’t Melt.
