Walkthrough

Travel to the D.E.H.T.A. Encampment at [57, 44], located in central Borean Tundra just southeast of Lake Kum’uya. Accept the quest from Arch Druid Lathorius, agree to the mission statement, and turn it in immediately.

That’s it. No combat, no travel, no objectives. Just agreement.

Quests Unlocked

Completing this quest opens up a variety of D.E.H.T.A. quests at the encampment:

• Ears of Our Enemies (kill Nesingwary hunters, collect ears)
• Help Those That Cannot Help Themselves (free trapped mammoth calves)
• Happy as a Clam (kill Loot Crazed Divers)
• Unfit for Death (trap Nesingwary Trappers)
• Ned, Lord of Rhinos… (kill Nedar, Lord of Rhinos)

These lead to additional quests, including the mammoth cavalry chain (Khu’nok Will Know, Kaw the Mammoth Destroyer) and the Karen “I Don’t Caribou” the Culler chain.

Achievement: Completing the full D.E.H.T.A. questline awards the achievement D.E.H.T.A.’s Little P.I.T.A. (10 achievement points).

No Faction Lock-Out

A common concern: Does doing D.E.H.T.A. quests prevent you from doing Nesingwary quests later?

No. You can complete the entire D.E.H.T.A. chain and still pick up Nesingwary’s Safari quests in Sholazar Basin without any difficulty. The game doesn’t track your “allegiance” between these opposing factions. Feel free to hunt with Hemet AND sabotage his operations. The irony is not lost on anyone.

Story Context: The “Demon” Nesingwary

The mission statement is dramatic:

“The demon has many names and each name has held special meaning at one time or another. While the details were sometimes insignificant, the end result was always the same: death.”

“But it is now, nearly fifty years after it all began, that the details will find the devil and lead to his downfall.”

“This time, we have him… There will be no escape for Nesingwary.”

“Northrend will be the battleground for our war. The hunter will become the hunted!”

D.E.H.T.A. has been opposing Hemet Nesingwary’s hunting operations for fifty years across multiple continents. Stranglethorn Vale, Nagrand, and now Northrend. They see him as a “demon” responsible for untold wildlife slaughter. Their language is deliberately extreme, treating hunting as equivalent to murder.

Lore: D.E.H.T.A. (Druids for the Ethical and Humane Treatment of Animals)

D.E.H.T.A. is a radical offshoot of the Cenarion Expedition. The acronym parodies real-world animal rights organizations, such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). The group’s methods are… aggressive:

• They collect the EARS of Nesingwary’s hunters
• They wear those ears as necklaces
• They trap hunters in the same snares hunters use on animals
• They recruit players to assassinate specific hunters

The D.E.H.T.A. Encampment features a “bonfire dwarf” at its center, symbolizing its hatred of Hemet Nesingwary. (Whether this is a statue or something more disturbing is left to interpretation.)

Warning: Animal Blood Debuff

If you kill ANY animal in Borean Tundra (including hostile beasts that attack you), you receive the Animal Blood debuff. While this debuff is active:

• All D.E.H.T.A. NPCs become hostile
• D.E.H.T.A. Enforcers will attack you on sight
• They will chase you while screaming insults

How to remove: Jump into any body of water. The debuff washes off immediately. Alternatively, wait for it to expire.

If you need to turn in D.E.H.T.A. quests after killing animals, take a quick swim first.
