Kill Kaw the Mammoth Destroyer and recover Kaw’s War Halberd. Deliver Kaw’s War Halberd to Archdruid Lathorius at the D.E.H.T.A. Encampment in the Borean Tundra.

Kaw’s Location: [53, 24] at Kaw’s Roost, riding his mammoth mount Moria.
CRITICAL: Loot the Halberd from the GROUND
When Kaw dies, Kaw’s War Halberd drops on the ground near his corpse. You must dismount and loot this item, NOT his body. You can also loot it if someone else killed Kaw.
Method 1: Mammoth Vehicle Combat (Intended)
Mammoth Abilities:
KEY STRATEGY: Don’t Fight Standing Still
This is critical. The kiting rotation:
Fighting stationary will get your mammoth killed before Kaw dies.
Method 2: Solo Without Mammoth (Totally Viable)
The mammoth mount is OPTIONAL. You can solo Kaw on foot:
If your mammoth dies mid-fight, finish Kaw on foot. He’s a level 72 elite, but not especially dangerous without his adds.
Kaw’s Behavior Pattern
Kaw cycles through phases:
Pro Tip: If you wait for Kaw to dismount, Moria disappears, and you only need to fight Kaw himself. This skips one fight entirely.
Tips for Success
Clear adds first: Approach from the south (from D.E.H.T.A. camp direction). Kill the Minions of Kaw around the platform BEFORE getting your mammoth. They respawn quickly, but clearing gives you space to fight.
Pull Kaw away from Moria’s corpse: If you kill Moria first, drag Kaw away before finishing him. Several players report the halberd dropping under Moria, making it unlootable.
Wait for patrol: Let Kaw mount up and patrol away from the platform before engaging. Fighting in the open field is easier than on the platform with adds nearby.
Known Bugs and Workarounds
UI Addons (Bartender, Dominos, Titan Panel): These can interfere with the mammoth vehicle bar and remove your abilities.
Fix: Log out, disable action bar mods, log back in.
Can’t mount mammoth: Relog. This usually fixes it.
Can’t dismount: Relog, or let mobs kill your mammoth to force dismount.
Moria “evading”: If Moria is greyed out and won’t take damage, go straight to Kaw with Trample. The quest can be completed without killing Moria.
Halberd under Moria: Pull Kaw away from Moria’s corpse before killing him. If it happens, wait for a respawn.
Story Context: Khu’nok’s Vengeance
Khu’nok speaks telepathically: “You cannot defeat the being responsible for the slaughter of my kind by yourself. The mammoths of the tundra will help you!”
“Venture forth to the plains and find a mammoth bull. He will allow you to mount him and control his movements and actions. Ride upon his back and find Kaw, north of here at Kaw’s Roost. Together, you will be the instrument of Kaw’s demise.”
The mammoths are actively participating in vengeance against their tormentor. This is poetic justice: the hunter becomes prey for the animals he’s been slaughtering.
Upon completion, Lathorius is thrilled:
“<Lathorius takes the halberd from you.> Is this what I think it is? <Lathorius grins.> Smashing! Outstanding! Another of Nesingwary’s lackeys brought to justice!”
Easter Egg: Permanent Mammoth Friends
After completing this quest, all Wooly Mammoth Bulls become permanently neutral (yellow) to you. The mammoths are thanking you for eliminating their nemesis.

I found a bull on the plains. He watched me approach, raised his tusks, but did not charge. When I climbed onto his back, he simply waited.
Fair enough. The mammoths wanted blood and I was the weapon they’d chosen.
Kaw’s Roost stank as mammoth carcasses were stripped for tusks, hides, meat. The minions saw us coming and bolted. They weren’t prepared for a bull in full fury, trampling through their camp, and those who didn’t flee fast enough didn’t flee at all.
Kaw laughed. “You challenge Kaw, Destroyer of Mammoths!? Then face me and feel my thunder!”
Kaw himself stood his ground, halberd raised. A hunter who’d made his name slaughtering mammoths, now facing one that had come for him.
He mounted an armored elekk, Moria. The two beasts crashed together on the ridge, tusk against tusk, the ground shaking beneath them. I held on and directed the bull’s charges while Kaw drove his elekk into us, reminding me how chaotic mounted combat was. You don’t fight the rider; you fight the mount. The bull’s tusks found Moria’s flank again and again until the elekk collapsed.
Kaw hit the ground rolling, halberd up, faster on foot than he’d been mounted. But he’d never fought a mammoth that had an elf on its back directing every charge. The bull’s tusks found him and the trampling finished what the goring started.
I took his halberd from his hand, its withered remnants tearing loose from his body.
Lathorius accepted the trophy.
“Is this what I think it is? Smashing! Outstanding! Another of Nesingwary’s lackeys brought to justice!”
Nesingwary’s operation ran deeper than one hunter, and the druids had more names on their list, Happy as a Clam.
