Tailspin is located at [61, 36], kneeling beside his crashed plane in the southern part of the Geyser Fields.
How to Find Him:
The location is south of the main Scalding Pools area and west of the Nerubian sinkholes, as Fizzcrank’s quest text indicates.
Story Context
Fizzcrank sent Tailspin’s recon squadron to gather intelligence on the Nerubian infestation in the Geyser Fields. Something went wrong.
Fizzcrank’s regret: “I should’ve flown the mission myself. It’s not that I don’t trust Tailspin. Far from it. Heck, he was the best wingman I ever flew with. No, it’s just that it’s my responsibility to lead a mission of such import.”
When you find Tailspin, he’s badly injured and the only survivor. His account: “There was a bright flash on the ground, and then, the next thing I know, the squadron’s going down! I’m hurt pretty badly, so I haven’t had a chance to comb the site for other survivors, but something tells me I don’t think there will be many.”
The “bright flash” suggests Nerubian involvement. The follow-up quests have you search for other survivors, recover mission materials, and destroy the wreckage to prevent enemy salvage.

Easter Egg: Disney’s TaleSpin
The name “Tailspin” is almost certainly a reference to Disney’s TaleSpin, the 1990 animated series that reimagined characters from The Jungle Book as bush pilots in a 1930s-style adventure setting. The show featured Baloo the Bear as a cargo pilot flying his beloved plane, the Sea Duck.
The connection fits perfectly: Tailspin is a gnome pilot who crashed his plane during a dangerous mission. The word “tailspin” itself describes an aircraft’s rapid spiral descent toward the ground, which is exactly what happened to his squadron.
There may be a Saving Private Ryan connection, since the follow-up quest chain involves searching for survivors of a downed military unit. The 1998 Spielberg film featured soldiers searching for a lost serviceman behind enemy lines.

He’d sent Tailspin out with their fastest recon squadron to gather intel on the Nerubian infestation in the Geyser Fields. The last report placed them in the pools to the far south, just west of the sinkholes.
Then nothing.
I found Iggy “Tailspin” Cogtoggle amid the wreckage of his flying machine. Alive, but barely. He looked up with relief when he saw me.
“Thank goodness.” He winced, shifting his injured leg. “It was terrible. There was a bright flash on the ground, and then the squadron’s going down. I’m hurt pretty badly. Haven’t had a chance to comb the site for other survivors, but…” He trailed off. His expression said enough.
He grimaced, then straightened as much as his wounds allowed. “Will you help me complete my mission?”
This was Fizzcrank’s best wingman, shot down over Nerubian territory. Still thinking about the mission.
I told him I would.
Tailspin’s squadron was scattered across the pools and most of them were likely gone, and the first thing he asks for has rather less to do with any of that than with A Little Bit of Spice.
