Story Context: Why Spices?
Tailspin’s mission carried critical microfilm containing intelligence on the Nerubian infestation. After the crash, local wolves scavenged the wreckage and ate the microfilm.
Tailspin’s plan: “The wolves have been pawing through the wreckage ever since the crash and I’m afraid they consumed the microfilm from our mission in the process. I have a plan to recover that microfilm, but I need your help to make it work.”
Gorlocs prepare their food with spices so noxious that other creatures become violently ill from them. Tailspin intends to mix these spices with his emergency rations to create bait that will make the wolves… expel the microfilm. The follow-up quest, Lupus Pupus, has you throw this bait at wolves and collect what comes out.
Tailspin’s reaction when you return: “<Iggy holds his nose as he empties the spice pouches and addresses you in a nasal voice.> Now that we have what we need, I’ll combine it with my emergency rations to create a bait for the wolves.”
Lore: The Gorlocs
Gorlocs are an arctic race of frog-like humanoids related to murlocs. Interestingly, lore suggests murlocs actually evolved from gorlocs, not the other way around, despite gorlocs being called “the next evolution of murlocs” when WotLK launched. Brann Bronzebeard has theorized that gorlocs may have been created by a frog Wild God, possibly Krag’wa.
The Borean Tundra gorlocs are hostile and primitive, behaving much like their murloc descendants. They battle the tuskarr in the region and aren’t interested in diplomacy.
This contrasts sharply with their cousins in Sholazar Basin, called the Oracles. Exposure to titan technology gave the Sholazar gorlocs true sentience and a complex culture. Players who reach Sholazar will have the option to ally with the Oracles in their war against the wolvar Frenzyheart Tribe.
The gorloc faction offers Mysterious Eggs that can hatch into rare mounts and pets, including the coveted Reins of the Green Proto-Drake.

I waited for him to explain how we’d recover intelligence data from inside wolves.
“I have a plan.” He pointed south and east. “In the Flood Plains, there are creatures called gorlocs. They prepare their foods with noxious spices that would sicken any other creature. Gather enough spice pouches from the steam belchers or waddlers, and I can make wolf bait.”
The plan: poison the wolves with gorloc cooking spices until they vomited up the microfilm.
Ingenuity.
The Flood Plains stank of sulfur and something worse. The gorlocs were ugly, aggressive, and carried pouches of spices that made my eyes water from ten paces. Four pouches later, I returned to Tailspin with my prize.
He held his nose as he emptied them, his voice going nasal. “Now that we have what we need, I’ll combine it with my emergency rations to create bait for the wolves.”
I pitied whatever wolf ate that concoction.
Tailspin mixed the spices into his emergency rations and held his nose, and the wolves outside were about to have a very bad day, Lupus Pupus or otherwise.
