My injuries make it dangerous for me to stray far from the safety of the wreckage, but perhaps you would be willing to help me recover the insignia? In the meantime, I’ll make preparations to carry out my final duty as squadron commander.”

Walkthrough
The dead Fizzcrank Recon Pilots are scattered around the oil-stained lakes near Tailspin’s crash site. They appear as small gnome bodies in black flight suits lying on the ground or at the water’s edge.
Confirmed Locations:
Additional locations include bodies around [59, 37], [59, 38], [59, 39], [59, 41], and [61, 38]. They’re spread throughout the area.

Tips for Finding Pilots
Targeting Macro: The gnome corpses are small and can be hard to spot underwater. Use this macro:
/target Fizzcrank Recon Pilot
Hunters: Dead pilots can be tracked with Track Humanoids.
Ridgeline Route: You can ride along the ridge east of Tailspin heading north. The black flight suits stand out against the white rock, making pilots easier to spot than those in the water.
Don’t Confuse Them: There’s an NPC called “Crashed Recon Pilot” in the area who is a different quest objective. The pilots you need for this quest are specifically “Fizzcrank Recon Pilot” bodies.
Story Context: Honoring the Fallen
This quest reveals Tailspin’s deep sense of duty. Despite being badly injured, his first concern is recovering the insignias of his fallen squadron.
Tailspin’s request: “Injured or not, as squadron commander, I’m responsible for locating and returning the insignia of all fallen pilots under my command. In all the years I’ve flown with Fizzcrank, we’ve never failed to return the signet of a pilot.”
His completion text: “Thank you once again. With your help, I may yet be able to complete this mission, disastrous as it’s been, and return to Fizzcrank to make my report and properly honor the dead.”
The gnomish military takes the return of pilot insignias seriously. This is a “no man left behind” tradition for Fizzcrank’s air wing, and Tailspin refuses to let his injuries prevent him from maintaining that honor.

Vikstone's War JournalTailspin’s voice changed. The injured gnome who’d joked about wolf droppings was gone, and in his place, a squadron commander.

In all the years I’ve flown with Fizzcrank, we’ve never failed to return the signet of a pilot.” He shifted, wincing. “My injuries make it dangerous for me to stray far from the wreckage. But perhaps you would be willing to help me recover the insignia? In the meantime, I’ll make preparations to carry out my final duty as squadron commander.”
The pools had wreckage across the landscape. Flying machines broken against rock and steam, with bodies beside them. I moved from site to site, collecting insignia from gnomes who would never fly again. Six pilots. Six small metal badges still warm from being pressed against still chests.
Tailspin accepted them with care. “Thank you. With your help, I may yet be able to complete this mission, disastrous as it’s been, and return to Fizzcrank to make my report and properly honor the dead.”
I understood. I’d carried names home from worse places than this.
Six insignia recovered and the wreckage itself still lying open across the pools for anyone to salvage, which is what brings them to Emergency Protocol: Section 8.2, Paragraph D.
