Emergency Protocol: Section 8.2, Paragraph D
“There’s only one more thing left to do before I can finally return to the airstrip and make my report. Section 8.2, paragraph D of the emergency protocol requires me to scuttle as much of the wreckage as possible, in order to prevent our technology from falling into enemy hands.
I’ll give you my torch if you agree to help me complete this last duty. I don’t want to think about what the Horde’s goblin allies will do if these machines fall into their hands.”

Walkthrough
All three wrecks are located in the oil-stained pools close to Tailspin’s crash site. Stay mounted for quick travel between them.
Wreck Locations:
To Complete:
Torch Tip: The torch has a 15-yard range. You don’t need to be standing directly on the wreck to ignite it.
Easter Egg: Don’t Torch Tailspin’s Plane
If you try to use the torch on Tailspin’s own crashed plane (the one he’s sitting next to), he’ll stop you:
Iggy “Tailspin” Cogtoggle says: “Are you crazy? You’re about to blow us sky high! I’ll take care of this wreck once everything else is finished.”
Apparently, the injured gnome wants to personally handle his own plane’s destruction. Little pyro.
Story Context: Denying the Enemy
This is standard military protocol: destroy sensitive equipment rather than let it fall into enemy hands. Tailspin is particularly worried about goblin engineers.
Tailspin’s concern: “Section 8.2, paragraph D of the emergency protocol requires me to scuttle as much of the wreckage as possible, in order to prevent our technology from falling into enemy hands. I don’t want to think about what the Horde’s goblin allies will do if these machines fall into their hands.”
The gnome-goblin engineering rivalry runs deep. Gnomes pride themselves on precision and safety, while goblins favor explosive power and “acceptable losses.” The thought of goblins reverse-engineering gnomish aircraft technology is apparently Tailspin’s nightmare scenario.

Vikstone's War Journal“One more thing,” Tailspin said, putting a torch into my hands. “Section 8.2, paragraph D. I have to scuttle as much of the wreckage as possible. Can’t let our technology fall into enemy hands.” He grimaced. “I don’t want to think about what the Horde’s goblin allies would do if these machines fell into their hands.”

I worked my way across the crash sites with the torch.
The Eastern Wreck went up first, flames catching the oil-slicked metal, spreading quickly. I stood back and watched gnomish engineering become smoke and ash.
The Southern Wreck burned slower. Something in the fuel lines caught and flared, sending sparks into the sky. A fitting end for machines that had carried pilots into their last flight.
The Northwestern Wreck was the hardest. Pilot still strapped in. I’d collected his insignia earlier, but seeing him there, small and still in the cockpit, made the torch feel heavier. I lit it anyway.
I returned to Tailspin with smoke still clinging to my armor.
“Once again, you have my thanks.” His voice was quiet. “Without you, I would not have been able to recover anything useful from this disaster.”
The fires still burned behind me. Funeral pyres for gnomes who’d died doing their duty. Some protocols served more than one purpose.
Insignia recovered, wreckage burned, microfilm cleaned off, and one thing left that no protocol covers, which is to Give Fizzcrank the News that the squadron is gone.
