Vikstone's Classic Expedition
Mechazod. The magnataur. Talramas. Three threats to the airstrip, dealt with. Fizzcrank said it was a wonder the place hadn't been wiped out already. He wasn't wrong.

“Okay, I think I’m going to start making my way back to the airstrip, too. Of course, I’m moving a little slower with this leg injury. Say, do you think you could get there ahead of me and pass on the good news to Ol’ Fizzcrank? I bet anything that there’ll be a reward in it for you.

Thanks, Vikstone!”

Walkthrough

Fizzcrank Fullthrottle stands near the main building at [57, 19].

Quest Dialogue

Bixie sends you ahead while she limps back on her injured leg:

“Okay, I think I’m going to start making my way back to the airstrip, too. Of course, I’m moving a little slower with this leg injury. Say, do you think you could get there ahead of me and pass on the good news to Ol’ Fizzcrank? I bet anything that there’ll be a reward in it for you.”

Fizzcrank’s reaction captures the state of the airstrip perfectly:

“That’s quite a tale. With all of the problems out here, it’s a wonder that the airstrip hasn’t been wiped out already. But thanks to you, there’s one less adversary to worry about. I put aside some special things for just such an occasion as this. Why don’t you take your pick?”

Lore: Fizzcrank’s Burden

Fizzcrank Fullthrottle is more than a quest hub NPC. He’s the main designer and builder of the entire Fizzcrank Airstrip, constructed at the request of General Arlos in Valiance Keep. The gnomes chose this location for two reasons: ideal terrain for launching reconnaissance flights, and proximity to Talramas for salvaging interesting mechanical parts.

That second reason turned into a nightmare. While siphoning oil from the Fizzcrank Pumping Station, the gnomes found strange mechanical parts stuck in their pipelines. Being gnomes, they couldn’t resist a puzzle. They reassembled the parts into a robot that looked like a giant gnome. It turned on, called itself Gearmaster Mechazod, and informed them they were “flawed beings” (mechagnomes tainted by the Curse of Flesh) before kidnapping gnomes to convert them into cyborg monstrosities.

Fizzcrank lost several people to Mechazod’s “upgrades” before adventurers stopped him. Between the Mechazod crisis, crashed pilots scattered across the tundra, Scourge activity at Talramas, and whatever else threatens gnomish operations in Northrend, his comment that “it’s a wonder the airstrip hasn’t been wiped out” is an understatement.

Your news that Lich-Lord Chillwinter is dead genuinely matters. It’s one less existential threat on Fizzcrank’s list.

What Opens Up

Completing this quest doesn’t directly unlock new content, but it signals completion of the Talramas storyline. If you haven’t done other Fizzcrank Airstrip chains, talk to Fizzcrank again for The Mechagnomes, which begins the Gearmaster Mechazod questline mentioned above.

Other major chains from the airstrip include the crashed pilot rescue (Finding Pilot Tailspin) and the Magmoth snobold area (Just a Few More Things… chain).

Bixie tested her weight on her injured leg and winced. “I’m moving a little slower with this. Get there ahead of me and pass on the good news to Ol’ Fizzcrank.”

I made the trek back to the airstrip. Fizzcrank listened to the full report: plagued magnataur, Scourge cultists, the crashed necropolis, Tinky’s capture and escape, Lich-Lord Chillwinter’s destruction.

“That’s quite a tale,” he said. “With all of the problems out here, it’s a wonder the airstrip hasn’t been wiped out already. But thanks to you, there’s one less adversary to worry about.”

He pressed gear into my hands, equipment he’d been saving for an occasion like this.

I took it and looked out over the airstrip. Gnomes were already back at their machines, hammering, welding, arguing about calibrations. Mechazod was scrap. The magnataur were thinning. Talramas had lost its commander. For now, that was enough.

The necropolis was dealt with and Fizzcrank’s troubles were not, because something small and loud and foul-smelling had been into the supplies, and those are Dirty, Stinkin’ Snobolds!
