Walkthrough

Head south from the Drak’Sotra camp toward the crashed necropolis Kolramas at [60, 79]. Hath’ar Skimmers are nerubian spiders found scattered around the area, concentrated around [56, 81]. Kill them and loot Intact Skimmer Spinnerets. You need 5.

The drop rate isn’t guaranteed on every kill, so expect to clear a few extra skimmers beyond the minimum. The area has a moderate density of them, but respawns can be slow if other players are farming.

Pair with: Death to the Necromagi (kill 8 Hath’ar Necromagi in the same area). The Necromagi are also found around Kolramas, so you can work both quests simultaneously. Between slow skimmer respawns and the Necromagi being spread through the area, combining these two prevents downtime.

Turn in to Specialist Cogwheel at Drak’Sotra [58, 72]. After turning in, she performs a short RP sequence where she tinkers with the spinnerets you brought back, attempting to build a web-launching device. Pick up Crashed Sprayer as your next quest.

NPC Flavor

Specialist Cogwheel is a gnome engineer, and her dialogue after turn-in is a highlight:

• “Oh, these are sticky! I wonder how they shoot the webbing?”
• “ACK! Oh no, I webbed myself! It’s sticky. MY HAIR!”
• “Okay! Let me just see if I can fashion these disgusting parts into something useful.”
• “Eureka!”

Her line about shooting webbing is a nod to the “how do I shot web?” internet meme that was popular when WotLK launched.

Lore Context

Kolramas is a crashed Scourge necropolis. The Drakkari trolls managed to bring it down during the Scourge invasion, but the Hath’ar nerubians inside survived the crash. They’re now emerging from the wreckage, raising dead crusaders and spreading blight across the area.

The Hath’ar are undead nerubians serving the Scourge, distinct from the living nerubians of Azjol-Nerub who resisted the Lich King. “Skimmers” are the spider-type variants that produce webbing.

Cogwheel’s plan is to use the nerubian spinnerets to build a device that can take down the Scourge’s plague sprayers, threatening the Argent Crusade camp. This pays off in the follow-up quest Crashed Sprayer, where you recover parts from a downed plague sprayer, and ultimately in A Tangled Skein.

Kolramas also contained a large shipment of saronite. The follow-up quest Pure Evil (unlocked by completing this quest) is one of the first encounters where players learn about saronite’s sinister properties.
