Lore Context
This is the moment the entire Drakuru infiltration has been building toward. Malmortis reveals what Drakuru has been doing with the blight crystals you helped harvest and the Drakkari chieftains Shalewing captured: converting living trolls into Blightblood Trolls, a new breed of super-soldiers for the Scourge.
The blight slowly seeps into their bodies, granting them powers “far greater than they would otherwise know.” Drakuru intends to march this army on Gundrak and claim the Drakkari capital for the Lich King.
The Scepter of Domination Drakuru gives you here is the key to his undoing. Stefan Vadu’s team modifies it, and you’ll use it in the next quest, Betrayal, to turn Drakuru’s own Blightblood Trolls against him. Drakuru’s “token of trust” becomes the weapon that destroys him.
Malmortis’s name comes from Latin: mal (bad) + mortis (death).

Vikstone's War Journal“Da time has come for me to reveal my master plan to ya, mon.”

Drakuru handed me the Scepter of Domination and granted access to his upper chamber. The villain’s fatal flaw was the need for an audience to appreciate his genius.
Malmortis waited in a musty coffin. Drakuru’s servant, some withered thing that emerged to play tour guide through the necropolis’s inner sanctum.
“Here lie our stores of blight crystal. I understand you are to thank for the bulk of our supply.”
The crystals I’d gathered. Then the chieftains I’d helped capture, caged and waiting.
“The blight slowly seeps into their bodies, preparing them for conversion. This special preparation grants them unique powers…. Soon, the master will grant them the dark gift, making them fit to serve the Lich King for eternity!”
Blightblood trolls. That was the plan. Capture Drakkari, saturate them with blight, convert them into enhanced undead soldiers. March on Gundrak with an army made from its own defenders.
“You keep da scepter,” Drakuru said afterward. “You gunna be needin’ it ta command my army in battle.”
Yes. He’d given me the weapon I needed. He just didn’t know who I’d be commanding it against.
The Scepter of Domination was a “token of trust,” and the trust was about to be shattered. But first, Reunited.
