Lore Context
Thunderfall is the site where Thorim, tricked by Loken into believing the frost giants killed his wife Sif, hurled his hammer Krolmir at King Arngrim. The explosion killed everyone nearby, both frost giants and frostborn dwarves mid-battle, and froze the entire scene in time. Some dwarves are still suspended in mid-air where the shockwave caught them.
The quest is an act of penance for Thorim’s mistake. By freeing the spirits of the fallen, you help lay to rest the victims of a tragedy that was engineered by Loken and, ultimately, by Yogg-Saron.

Vikstone's War JournalI stood before the monument Njormeld built. King Arngrim’s name carved in frost-touched stone, and all the others lost at Thunderfall beside him.

Feelings flooded through me as I pondered the inscription. Images. Urgency. When I looked down, an ethereal horn rested in my hands, wind already swirling around it.
The restless spirits at Thunderfall needed release. Niffelem Forefathers. Restless Frostborn. Both sides of that ancient battle, still fighting among the frozen dead. My claymore put them down. The horn’s call let them go.
Each note echoed across the mountains, and the spirits drifted upward. Their long vigil finally ending.
I returned to the monument. Peace settled over me, knowing those tormented souls now rested. Some work requires steel. Some requires song.
This required both.
