“Broodmother Slivina’s likely to be a snarling ball of teeth, spikes, and talons. You’ve gone and stolen her children away and no mother takes kindly to that. ‘Tis true they hatched from eggs, but she loves the little beasts no less than your mother loves you. She’ll be desperate and fierce in equal measures, everything Hemet loves in a target. You and he, along with that mammoth, should be a match for her.
She’s on her perch at the northern edge of the Savage Thicket and hungers for revenge.”

After Turn-In Returning to Dorian triggers one of WotLK’s most entertaining NPC dialogues. Hemet arrives and delivers an increasingly embellished account of the battle to Dorian, crediting your skill with Stampy and describing “a haze of blood, lead, and sweat.”
The punchline comes from Dorian’s deadpan response about his own “epic” afternoon discussing the drawbacks of cogs with Zootfizzle. This dialogue plays regardless of whether you actually used Stampy, meaning Hemet will brag about riding a mammoth you may have abandoned in the first ten seconds.

Hemet Nesingwary’s Full Journey
This quest is the capstone of Hemet’s Northrend hunting expedition and awards The Snows of Northrend. Combined with The Green Hills of Stranglethorn (Classic) and Hills Like White Elekk (Outland), it completes the meta-achievement Hemet Nesingwary: The Collected Quests.
Hemet continued hunting through Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, and Battle for Azeroth. In Dragonflight, he finally retired, now driving a cart around Azure Span for the Dragonscale Expedition and reflecting: “I’ve bagged enough trophies to last me ten lifetimes.”
His son, Hemet Nesingwary Jr., carries on the family tradition in the Ohn’ahran Plains.
Proto-Dragons and the Dragonflight Expansion
Killing Broodmother Slivina is your encounter with one of the last wild proto-dragon matriarchs. In Dragonflight, the ancient proto-dragons who rejected the titans’ ordering, known as the Primal Incarnates, return as expansion-defining antagonists.
The Savage Thicket, according to Muradin Bronzebeard via Exploring Azeroth: Northrend, may be the original birthplace of proto-dragons. It is also connected to Ember Clutch in Howling Fjord, another ancient breeding ground referenced in-game.
Explore Sholazar Basin’s hidden easter eggs, lore mysteries, and connections across Warcraft history in Vikstone’s Sholazar Basin Chronicles, along with the complete quest storyline.
Vikstone's War Journal“Broodmother Slivina’s likely to be a snarling ball of teeth, spikes, and talons,” Dorian said. “You’ve gone and stolen her children away and no mother takes kindly to that. ‘Tis true they hatched from eggs, but she loves the little beasts no less than your mother loves you. She’ll be desperate and fierce in equal measures, everything Hemet loves in a target.”

Mounted Stampy with Hemet riding behind, rifle ready. The mammoth had accepted both of us without complaint. Good beast.
Found Slivina at her perch on the northern edge of the Savage Thicket. Her shriek split the sky, and then she dove.
Stampy lurched beneath us as Slivina’s claws raked the mammoth’s hide. I hauled on the reins, trying to keep our mount steady while Hemet’s rifle cracked behind my ear. “Trap! Lead her to the trap!” He’d been dropping them as we circled, and I finally understood the strategy. Bait and punish.
Slivina’s flame breath washed over us. Stampy bellowed but held. I drove the mammoth forward, and Slivina followed, too enraged to notice the trap until it snapped shut on her wing. She screamed, and Hemet emptied his rifle into her exposed flank.
Every trap Hemet laid bought us seconds, and we filled those seconds with everything we had. We’d taken her children. She’d die before she let that stand.
In the end, she did.
The final trap caught her mid-dive. Stampy’s war stomp connected with her skull. Hemet’s last shots found her throat. She hit the ground and didn’t rise.
Rode back to Dorian’s camp in silence. Even Hemet seemed subdued for a moment.
Then he wasn’t.
“What a fight you missed, Dorian! It was one for the ages! There we were, riding into battle at full speed on the back of Stampy… Everything was shaking all over the place. I could hardly steady my gun. And then we saw her, the fearsome beast! It took all of Vikstone’s skill to maintain control of Stampy. The battle was a haze of blood, lead, and sweat. The broodmother’s attacks came faster and faster!”
Dorian caught my eye. I said nothing.
The mammoth and I had done the work. Hemet would tell the story. That was how it went.
Slivina’s head would hang in the camp now. Trophy of the hunt. A mother who’d died defending children that were already gone.
Somewhere in the Savage Thicket, those hatchlings would grow up without her. Zootfizzle’s research subjects now.
The work continued.
Slivina was dead, Hemet was insufferable, and the Savage Thicket smelled like burnt proto-dragon, so naturally there was more work waiting back at camp in My Pet Roc.
