Quest Giver: Grimbooze Thunderbrew — Nesingwary Base Camp, Sholazar Basin

Objective: Bring 1 Orange, 2 Banana Bunches, and 1 Papaya to Grimbooze Thunderbrew.

Walkthrough

• Head east into the Wildgrowth Mangal and look for Sturdy Vines hanging from the tall jungle trees. Click a vine to shake the tree and drop a random fruit (Orange, Banana Bunch, or Papaya).
• The fruit type is random per vine. You need 1 Orange, 2 Banana Bunches, and 1 Papaya, so expect to pull 4-8+ vines depending on luck. Bananas tend to feel hardest to get simply because you need two.
• Good vine locations: Around [38-42, 63-66] southwest of River’s Heart is the most popular area. If those are picked over, try [34, 61] in the murky forested area with less competition.
• Some vines hang high. Jump while clicking to reach them, or if you have Cold Weather Flying, you can fly up, dismount, and click on the way down.
• Do not use the Storm Peaks loaned flying mounts while doing this quest. The fruit shaken loose while on these mounts will fling off into the distance and never land.

The Adventurous Dwarf

• Occasionally, pulling a vine will cause an Adventurous Dwarf to fall out of the tree instead of fruit. He exclaims: “Ouch! Watch where you’re tugging!”
• Talk to him and he will give you one of whichever fruit you still need. He’s essentially a wild card that guarantees progress. If you’re missing bananas (the most common holdout), ask the dwarf for those.

Easter Egg

• “When life gives you lemons…” The quest title riffs on the classic motivational proverb. Grimbooze’s version: when life gives you lemons, skip the lemonade and go straight to distilling liquor. His quest text: “Life’s tossed me a cartload of lemons this time!”
• The quest kicks off a three-part brewing chain that ends with Grimbooze creating a jungle-fruit liquor and taste-testing it on the camp.

Lore Context

Grimbooze Thunderbrew is not just some random dwarf brewer. He is one of the co-founders of Brewfest, WoW’s annual beer festival. Years before WotLK, he ran the Thunderbrew Distillery in Kharanos when Chen Stormstout (the legendary pandaren brewmaster who later becomes central to Mists of Pandaria) walked in to sample his finest recipe.

The two drank each other’s beer, declared the other one better, and held a massive brew taste-testing contest in Dun Morogh that became the origin of Brewfest. Chen left his magical Jug of a Thousand Cups with Grimbooze when he departed, but Grimbooze allegedly drank from it so heavily that it drove him a bit mad (which is why he spoke only in rhymes during his Classic-era quests in Westfall).

By WotLK, he’s joined Nesingwary’s expedition to Sholazar in search of new ingredients, which is exactly what this quest chain delivers.

Cross-Expansion Connection

• Chen Stormstout becomes a major character in Mists of Pandaria, where players adventure alongside him throughout the Jade Forest and beyond. Chen’s backstory with Grimbooze and the founding of Brewfest was told in the Warcraft manga Pearl of Pandaria.
• Grimbooze’s grandson Daran Thunderbrew later appears at Brewfest and passes Chen’s Jug of a Thousand Cups to Li Li Stormstout, saying he didn’t want to “end up like Grimbooze.”
• Meanwhile, Grimbooze’s son Ragnar co-hosts Brewfest’s keg-tapping ceremony but controversially claims his father alone founded the festival, omitting Chen entirely. This Sholazar quest chain is a small but meaningful chapter in one of WoW’s longest-running lore threads about dwarven and pandaren brewing culture.
