His men have forged them. Somewhere in that building there is a fire going and a knight standing over it making these to a pattern, and there will be more of them by morning.
The banner is not something you carry over and set down. It is thrown. You stand off at fifteen yards, put the point where you want it, and it goes into the body from there.
Some of the fifteen I made myself that morning. The rest were already out there, from yesterday and the day before, going stiff in the cold with the drifts starting over them.
A vrykul walking that ground tomorrow will not be able to tell which of his dead I killed and which I simply found.
“Well done. Let them see the desecrated corpses of their fallen comrades and think twice about striking at us! If you come back tomorrow, I will make certain to have more banners prepared for you.”
Banners in the dead worked on the vrykul who found them, and Lankral had a longer memory than Sliver did, because the things Jotunheim raised its own standards over meant more to them than any corpse, which is the whole idea behind Vandalizing Jotunheim.
