Walkthrough
After speaking with Bridenbrad in A Tale of Valor, you understand the situation. Bridenbrad carries the Plague of Undeath and has quarantined himself in the mountains to prevent it from spreading. He explicitly asks you to leave and to ensure no one else comes looking.
Fly southwest to Crusaders’ Pinnacle and speak with Highlord Tirion Fordring. No combat is involved.
Tirion declares that undeath will not be Bridenbrad’s fate and vows to find a way to save him, leading directly into the search for divine intervention that spans the next eleven quests.

Bridenbrad’s Dialogue
Bridenbrad’s words in this quest are carefully written to establish his character in just a few sentences. He knows exactly why you have come and refuses immediately. He tells you his only regret is what he may become when death takes him. He does not fear dying; he fears being raised into the Scourge and serving the man he calls “the traitor, Arthas.”
His final request is not for help but for isolation: he asks you to leave and make sure no one else is exposed to his plague. Everything about Bridenbrad here is selflessness. He would rather die alone on a frozen mountain than risk one more person.
Tirion’s Resolve
Tirion’s completion text reveals his character as well. He says he cannot imagine a worse fate for someone who devoted his life to the ways of light, and he refuses to leave Bridenbrad to die without lifting a finger to help.
This is Tirion at his most personally invested. Not a military decision, not a strategic calculation, just a man refusing to accept that a good person should suffer this way.
His resolve here launches you on a journey across three continents to find a cure, escalating from a demigod in Moonglade to a Dragon Aspect in Dragonblight to a Naaru in Shattrath.
The Plague’s Cruelty (Spoiler)
The specific horror of Bridenbrad’s situation is worth noting. The Plague of Undeath does not simply kill. It transforms the victim into an undead servant of the Lich King, stripping away free will and turning them against everything they once fought for.
For a Crusader who spent his life fighting the Scourge, there is no more complete defeat.
This is what makes the chain’s conclusion so powerful: A’dal does not cure Bridenbrad. The plague cannot be cured. But A’dal ensures that Bridenbrad’s soul is taken to paradise before the plague can claim it, denying the Lich King his prize.

He told me about the men he pulled out of the Broken Front. Names, faces, which shoulder he carried each one across. He told me about the ones he could not reach, and that they still find him in the quiet hours. I did not tell him how well I know that visiting hour. It was his fire.

“No. I shall stay here. My only regret lies in what I may become when death grips me. I do not fear death itself, but I loathe to consider serving the traitor, Arthas.”
The worst of it was how level he stayed. His mind was entirely his own, every word weighed before it was spent, a man who had looked at the whole of it and chosen the one road that honored what he believed. The plague was eating him and had not managed to reach anything that mattered.
“Leave me,” he said. “And see to it that no one else comes looking. You would do me a great disservice if you were to expose anyone to the plague that I carry.”
I sat with that a while. Then I paid for the stories he had given me with the only coin I had.
“I lost my wife and my daughter to this war,” I said. “They were not given your choice. I know what it is to watch someone you love be made into a weapon aimed at everything they stood for.”
He watched me and waited. He did not say he was sorry, and I was grateful for it.
“You deserve better than this cold,” I said. “But I’ll honor your wish. And Tirion will know you chose this. That it was not surrender.”
He nodded once, soldier to soldier, and I left him his fire.
Fordring heard the whole of it without interrupting.
“Bridenbrad has contracted the plague? I cannot imagine a worse fate for one who has devoted his life to the ways of the Light, nor can I fathom leaving him to die without lifting a finger to help.”
Then he straightened, and the grief went somewhere and did not come back out.
“No. Undeath shall not be his fate. We shall find a way to aid this hero.”
Tirion did not reach for the Ashbringer or the Crusade, because a plague that answers to the Lich King needed something older than either, and the oldest healer he could name kept a grove on the far side of the world in The Keeper’s Favor.
