“You must understand, young Night Elf, that cleansing the body in favor of life anew is something well within my grasp… removing the plague of undeath without affecting the body, however, is beyond the scope of the powers that I control. If this Bridenbrad is the beacon of light that you profess him to be, perhaps he will endure such a cleansing and thrive, but I cannot state with confidence that this is the salvation that you seek.
Take it and go with all of my blessings.”

What Alexstrasza Actually Warns You
Alexstrasza’s description of her limitation is worth reading carefully. She distinguishes between two things: cleansing a body toward new life (which she can do) versus removing the plague while leaving the existing body intact (which she cannot).
The cleansing she offers is a transformation, not a cure. Bridenbrad says he understands the risks and is prepared to proceed. This ambiguity is what makes the outcome of the chain carry weight.
The Full Chain Context
The Boon of Alexstrasza is the second of three major “boons” sought on Bridenbrad’s behalf. Before this, Keeper Remulos of the Emerald Dream attempted to help through nature’s power.
After this, Tirion escalates to A’dal, the chief Naaru in Shattrath City, representing the Light itself. Each attempt fails to save Bridenbrad’s body. A’dal’s answer to the final attempt is the most memorable part of the chain’s conclusion.
If you have not done the A’dal portion yet, continue with Hope Yet Remains when Bridenbrad sends you back to Tirion.
Brad Bridenbecker
Crusader Bridenbrad is named for Bradford C. Bridenbecker, city manager of La Habra, California, who died of cancer in June 2007.
His brother Rob Bridenbecker was Blizzard’s Vice President of Online Technologies. Shortly after Brad’s death, Rob sent an email to Blizzard requesting a memorial. Chris Metzen, who had attended Brad’s funeral, offered two options: a background character in the main WotLK storyline, or a dedicated quest chain.
The family chose the chain. Alex Afrasiabi and Metzen developed it together.

Vikstone's War JournalAlexstrasza had not promised a cure.

“You must understand, young night elf, that cleansing the body in favor of life anew is something well within my grasp. Removing the plague of undeath without affecting the body, however, is beyond the scope of the powers that I control. If this Bridenbrad is the beacon of light that you profess him to be, perhaps he will endure such a cleansing and thrive, but I cannot state with confidence that this is the salvation that you seek. Take it and go with all of my blessings.”
What she gave me was her breath, and I understood the whole flight north what I was actually carrying. It is the fire that came down after the Wrathgate. Now I was bringing it to a dying man as medicine, and which of those two things it turned out to be would be decided inside Bridenbrad’s chest. If he was what Tirion professed, he would come through it renewed. If he was not, I was carrying his pyre.
The veins had reached his jaw.
“You have returned yet again, warrior,” he said. “Why do you risk yourself so?”
“The breath of Alexstrasza… you have gone to the dragon-queen herself? I’m extremely grateful.” Then, with the dark standing in his neck: “I understand the risks of such cleansing and I am prepared. Proceed, warrior.”
He consented to the fire in the same voice he had thanked me with. I have led soldiers into places not all of them came out of, and I have never heard an order received so evenly, least of all by the man it might burn.
I opened the vessel over him. Her breath came out as flame that did not behave like flame, wrapping him, sinking in, and he tensed once, jaw shut on whatever it cost him, and made no sound at all.
When it faded, the veins were still there.
“It slows the corruption,” he said. “I can feel it fighting. But…”
He left it unfinished.
The only thing left to carry down to Tirion was the difference between slower and saved, which is all that Hope Yet Remains asks him to say out loud.
