The Black Knight’s Orders

Quest Giver: Crusader Rhydalla — Argent Tournament Grounds, Icecrown [75, 22]

Objective: Use the Enchanted Bridle on the Black Knight’s Gryphon to fly to the Black Knight’s hidden camp. Recover the Stolen Tournament Invitation and Black Knight’s Orders from inside the tent, then return to Crusader Rhydalla.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Find the Black Knight’s Gryphon

• From the Argent Tournament Grounds, head east toward the graveyard you visited during The Stories Dead Men Tell. The Black Knight’s camp is between the tournament tents and the graveyard.
• The Black Knight’s Gryphon stands next to a small tent at [77.7, 21.6], near the meeting stone. The Black Knight himself is camped right there beside it, so you are taking his mount out from under him in plain view.

Step 2: Use the Enchanted Bridle

• Stand near the gryphon and use the Enchanted Bridle from your inventory.
• The gryphon will auto-pilot you to a small island in the frozen sea north of Aldur’thar, approximately [54, 8]. Note that the gryphon walks for part of the distance before taking flight.
• You must use the bridle on the gryphon. Flying to the island on your own mount does not count for the quest objective.

Step 3: Clear the Island and Loot the Tent

• Upon landing, a few Cult Conspirators patrol around the shack. They are level 80 non-elites and easy to handle solo. Be ready for one near the landing spot, as a patrolling mob may aggro you immediately on arrival.
• Enter the shack and collect both quest items:
  • Stolen Tournament Invitation: On a barrel to the right of the door as you enter.
  • Black Knight’s Orders: On top of two crates near the stove.
• Both items can be looted by multiple players simultaneously and respawn quickly.

Step 4: Return to Crusader Rhydalla

• Use your flying mount to return to the Argent Tournament Grounds. The gryphon does not fly you back. If you do not have a flying mount, hearthstone to Dalaran and fly from there.
• On turn-in, Rhydalla reads the orders and confirms the Black Knight is a Cult of the Damned agent sent by Arthas to sabotage the tournament. She tells you to return when you have achieved the rank of Champion so you can confront him directly.

Efficiency Tips

• If you have the Aspirant or Valiant daily Training in the Field (kill Scourge mobs) active, the Cult Conspirators on the island count toward its completion.
• The next quest, The Black Knight’s Fall, requires Champion rank. If you are still working through Valiant dailies, this is where the chain pauses. It typically takes several days of dailies to reach Champion from this point.
• Do not log off during the gryphon flight. If you disconnect mid-flight, you may fall to your death when you log back in.
• This quest chain does not count toward the Icecrown: The Final Goal zone achievement.

Lore & Secrets

The Big Reveal

The orders confirm what Rhydalla suspected throughout the chain: the Black Knight was planted in the tournament by the Lich King via the Cult of the Damned. His mission was to assassinate the Argent Crusade’s champions before they could be assembled into the army destined to storm Icecrown Citadel.

The stolen tournament invitation explains how he gained entry under a false identity.

The Kirin Tor’s involvement in providing the enchanted bridle shows the broader cooperation between Dalaran’s mages and the Argent Crusade that characterizes the late-WotLK alliance against the Scourge.

The theft happens in front of him. The Black Knight is camped beside his own gryphon on the eastern edge of the grounds, and the Kirin Tor’s bridle works while he stands there watching.
