Walkthrough

1. Kill mobs in Gjalerbron until the Gjalerbron Attack Plans drop. The item drops from Necrolords and other Gjalerbron mobs. The drop rate is decent; you will likely get this while working on Dealing With Gjalerbron or Sleeping Giants without specifically farming for it.
2. Right-click the item to accept the quest. Read the plans: they describe an imminent attack on Westguard Keep using the frost wyrm Glacion, who circles overhead above Gjalerbron.
3. Return to Westguard Keep and deliver the plans to Mage-Lieutenant Malister, not Captain Adams. Malister is the keep’s arcane specialist and the one equipped to deal with a frost wyrm threat.

Tips

• You Will Get This Passively: Do not go out of your way to farm this item. If you are doing the standard Gjalerbron quest sweep, you will kill enough mobs for the plans to drop naturally.
• Hold It Until You Are Done: Since this is just a delivery, there is no reason to interrupt your Gjalerbron sweep to run back to Westguard. Finish all your other objectives first, then turn everything in at once. The follow-up quest, The Frost Wyrm and its Master, will send you back to Gjalerbron anyway.
• The Follow-Up Is a Group Quest: The Frost Wyrm and its Master is flagged as a 2-player group quest. It requires you to kill Wyrmcaller Vile and then use his horn to summon and kill the frost wyrm Glacion. Plan accordingly. Well-geared players can solo it, but be aware of the group tag before heading back up.

Story Context

This is one of those quests that quietly raises the stakes of the Gjalerbron operation. While you have been fighting vrykul and Scourge across the fortress, the enemy has been planning a counterattack. The plans you find are not defensive formations or ritual notes. They are an offensive blueprint:

“These plans detail an imminent attack upon Westguard Keep. It would appear that the frost wyrm, Glacion, who circles overhead is to be used for the offensive.”

That frost wyrm you have been seeing patrolling the skies above Gjalerbron is not a guard. It is a weapon pointed at your base. The vrykul and their Scourge allies are not content to sit in their fortress and be picked off.

They are planning to bring the war to Westguard’s doorstep with an undead dragon.

The quest directs you to Mage-Lieutenant Malister rather than Captain Adams for good reason. Adams is a military commander who deals in soldiers and steel. A frost wyrm is a magical threat that requires a magical response. Malister’s reaction captures the severity: “What?! Plans for an attack upon the keep? A FROST WYRM?!!!” His shock is genuine. A frost wyrm assault on Westguard Keep would be devastating, and the only reason it has not happened yet is that you stumbled onto these plans in time.

The Horde version carries the same urgency. Chieftain Ashtotem’s lieutenant, Celea Frozenmane, receives the plans at Camp Winterhoof, and his reaction uses taunka cultural framing: “FROM A GREAT WYRM IN THE SKY?!!!” The taunka do not call it a frost wyrm.

They call it what it looks like to a people without a Scourge vocabulary: a great wyrm.

Lore Note: Frost Wyrms as Strategic Weapons

Frost wyrms are reanimated dragon skeletons, the bones of dead dragons raised by Scourge necromancy and encased in ice. They are among the most feared units in the Lich King’s army, serving as airborne siege weapons that can freeze entire formations of soldiers with their breath.

In Warcraft III, frost wyrms were the Scourge’s ultimate air unit, and their presence at Gjalerbron signals that the Lich King considers this operation worth his most powerful assets.

The fact that a frost wyrm is stationed at what is essentially a vrykul recruitment center tells you how seriously Arthas takes the awakening operation. Glacion is not here to protect the Necrolords or the Rune-Casters. It is here to destroy anyone who threatens to shut the pipeline down. And when you intercepted those plans, you learned it was about to be aimed at the Alliance and Horde forward bases that have been harassing Gjalerbron’s operations.

Players who later clear Naxxramas will encounter frost wyrms on a much grander scale. The entire Military Quarter and portions of the Frostwyrm Lair showcase what the Scourge can accomplish with enough dragon corpses and necromantic power.
