“When we first scouted locations for the fort, we encountered hostile creatures at two of the glades here in the north. When we passed the snow-covered one directly south of the town, the dryads there watched us with interest, but did not attack. We were tired and worn down by the weather. They could’ve easily killed several of our men, but they didn’t.
Perhaps, in reaching out to them, we might discover unexpected allies. Are you willing to travel to the Frozen Glade and make contact with them?”

“When we first scouted locations for the fort, we encountered hostile creatures at two of the glades here in the north,” Lieutenant Maeve said. “When we passed the snow-covered one directly south of the town, the dryads there watched us with interest, but did not attack.”
She paused, remembering.
“We were tired and worn down by the weather. They could’ve easily killed several of our men, but they didn’t. Perhaps, in reaching out to them, we might discover unexpected allies.”
Dryads. Frost nymphs, specifically, adapted to Northrend’s cold. But still daughters of the wild, still bound to the land in ways few mortals understood.
I knew their kind. Had known them, in forests that felt very far away now.
The Frozen Glade. Snow blanketed everything, muffling sound, softening edges. The nymphs watched from between frost-rimmed trees, curious but unhostile. One of them threw a snowball at another, who laughed.
She listened as I introduced myself, patience in a young face.
“It is good to finally meet you. We have long hoped that you and the other newcomers might send representatives. We don’t often venture beyond the borders of our glades, especially amid the changes the land is going through.”
I had seen what corruption did to sacred places. Whatever threatened the Frozen Glade, these sisters of the wild would need help defending it.
Lurielle’s sisters were safe for the moment and the ice elementals who had once kept them company were not, because something had turned the Spirits of the Ice hostile and they were coming toward the glade.
