“My sister is here somewhere, and I can’t seem to get this monster to talk,” she said. “He doesn’t seem to care about his own well-being, but I’ve an idea. I knew Anatoly’s wife, Tatjana, from before the wolfcult arrived. She was a horse-handler.” Sasha handed me a tranquilizer dart. “Bring her back alive. We’re going to need leverage.”
I found Tatjana at the Solstice Village stables. The dart flew true. I carried her back on horseback, unconscious and innocent of what was to come.
Sasha leveled her rifle at the sleeping woman. “Surprise, you scum. You’re going to tell me where my sister is or I’ll put a bucketful of truesilver bullets through your wife’s heart.”
Anatoly broke. “The wolf den on the other side of the mountain. She was to be taken to Arugal.”
“One last thing. I need to know where Arugal is.”
“Grizzly Hills,” Anatoly said. “He’s taken over Shadowfang Tower.”
Then he looked at his sleeping wife. “Forgive me, Tatjana.”
He moved faster than a bound man should. His hands found his wife’s throat before I could react. By the time I reached them, Tatjana was dead and Anatoly was changing, bones cracking as the worgen emerged.
“Nothing you can do compares to what Arugal can do to us!”
Sasha’s shot took him between the eyes.
Silence. Then: “That was close. We need to save Anya. Now.”
She didn’t look at the bodies. Neither did I.
Two bodies on the trading post floor, and one name: the wolf den on the other side of the mountain. Solstice Village still needs clearing before Sasha can follow that lead in Sasha’s Hunt.
