“The Anub’ar cultists are indirectly responsible for the plaguing of the beasts, and we must put an end to it! The fumes that emit from the cultists’ suits seep into everything they come near, poisoning and corrupting their surroundings. You must go north to Icemist Village and slay them.

Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Jodi Moonsong now has the cause of the blight: it’s the Anub’ar Cultists at Icemist Village. Their suits emit fumes that seep into everything they come near, poisoning and corrupting the surrounding wildlife.
She wants you to kill the cultists and bring back their suits so she can destroy them by cleansing them in the moonwell.

Lore Context
The quest text explicitly identifies the mechanism of the blight you cleaned up in the previous quest: “The fumes that emit from the cultists’ suits seep into everything they come near, poisoning and corrupting their surroundings.”
This connects the environmental damage (blighted wildlife) directly to a Scourge intelligence operation. The cultists aren’t warriors; they’re infiltrators whose very presence poisons the land.
Jodi Moonsong’s completion text reveals what she does with the recovered suits: “I will dispose of these filthy garments by cleansing them in the moonwell and destroying them through the power of the goddess!”
The moonwell at Stars’ Rest serves as the cleansing agent for both the wildlife (Liquid Fire of Elune) and the suits. Elune’s power is positioned as the direct counter to Scourge corruption.
Icemist Village was the taunka capital before the Anub’ar nerubians destroyed it. The taunka evacuation and rescue is the parallel Horde storyline in this area, run from Westwind Refugee Camp. Both factions are dealing with the same nerubian incursion from different angles: the Alliance through the night elf warden’s ecological lens, the Horde through the taunka refugees’ displacement and ancestral reclamation.
Cross-Expansion Connection
The Anub’ar nerubians who destroyed Icemist Village are servants of the Scourge, converted during the War of the Spider when the Lich King conquered Azjol-Nerub.
In The War Within, players encounter the last independent nerubian kingdom of Azj-Kahet, which refused to aid Azjol-Nerub during that war and now serves Queen Ansurek under the influence of the void entity Xal’atath.
The cultists at Icemist represent the Scourge-enslaved branch of nerubian civilization; Azj-Kahet represents those who stayed free but fell to a different corruption.

Vikstone's War Journal“The Anub’ar cultists are indirectly responsible for plaguing the beasts, and we must put an end to it.”

Moonsong had another job for me before the moonwell water dried on my hands.
“The fumes that emit from the cultists’ suits seep into everything they come near, poisoning and corrupting their surroundings. You must go to Icemist Village and slay them. Bring back any of their suits that survive your assault and I will see to it that they are properly disposed of.”
Anub’ar held Nerubian worshippers who’d thrown in with the Scourge, wearing suits designed to spread corruption, because apparently regular armor wasn’t dramatic enough for cultist fashion.
I found them patrolling Icemist in pairs, trailing green vapor that wilted everything it touched. The trees seemed to lean away from their toxic presence.
The first one died before his Shadow Bolt finished forming. A sphere of dark energy fizzled against the snow, and by the time his hands came up for a second cast, my mace had already answered. The fumes from his suit tried to crawl into my lungs, and I stepped back, holding my breath until the worst of it dissipated.
Then came the unpleasant part.
Removing a functional suit from a dead cultist is exactly as pleasant as undressing a venomous snake. The fabric seeps corruption, the buckles are slick with something I chose not to examine, and the smell would make a ghoul gag.
I carried the bundle of suits back to Stars’ Rest at arm’s length, breathing through my mouth.
Moonsong took one look at the pile and wrinkled her nose. “Well done. I will dispose of these filthy garments by cleansing them in the moonwell and destroying them through the power of the goddess.”
Elune’s fire for poisoned cloth.
“The cultists are a blight upon creation,” she added, as if I hadn’t noticed.
Moonsong had a leader to aim at and put The Favor of Zangus at the top of the list, with the trail running down into the Pit of Narjun.
