“I have dreamed of Zangus before but without the context that you have discovered, I knew not what it meant. You have brought clarity to the vision that the goddess has bestowed upon me, and now I know that he can be found within the Pit of Narjun to the north.
You know your target, Vikstone. If there’s to be an end to the suffering of the land, the high cultist must die!”

Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Jodi Moonsong now knows her target. The name you brought her from the Favor of Zangus clarified a vision she had already received from Elune: “I have dreamed of Zangus before but without the context that you have discovered, I knew not what it meant. You have brought clarity to the vision that the goddess has bestowed upon me, and now I know that he can be found within the Pit of Narjun to the north.”
Getting to the Pit of Narjun
The Pit of Narjun is a massive sinkhole at [~26, 50], south of Icemist Village and directly beneath the “Z” in “Azjol-Nerub” on your map. Two ways in:
Finding Zangus
From the bottom of the pit, take the tunnel heading east. Follow it as it slopes downward and curves right. High Cultist Zangus is at approximately [~29, 50], at the end of a short tunnel.
You will encounter a few Anub’ar Underlords (level 72-73) along the way; they can be pulled individually.
Zangus stands near a cauldron at his location. He is a level 72 non-elite caster.
Fighting Zangus
Zangus uses two abilities:
He is not elite and is soloable by any class at level 72+. The fight is straightforward. Pop cooldowns if undergeared, but most players will find him an easy kill.
Getting Out
This is where players most commonly get stuck. From Zangus’s location:
If you become disoriented, head west and uphill. The exit ramp is always on the western side of the pit.
Tips
Lore Context
High Cultist Zangus is an orc and a member of the Cult of the Damned.
He is not a nerubian himself; he’s a mortal who chose to serve the Scourge. He leads the Anub’ar forces from within the Pit of Narjun, directing the undead nerubians that destroyed Icemist Village and spread the blight that poisoned the wildlife you cleansed in The Liquid Fire of Elune.
The entire 4-quest chain traces the ecological damage back from symptom (blighted animals) → cause (cultist suit fumes) → leader (Zangus) → execution.
Jodi Moonsong’s quest text is a showcase of the night elf warden tradition. She doesn’t rely on scouts or military intelligence alone. Elune sent her a prophetic dream about Zangus, but without the context you provided (the Favor of Zangus token), she couldn’t interpret it.
Your investigative work and her divine guidance combine to locate the target. This is the warden way: part huntress, part priestess.
The Horde perspective on the same target is strikingly different. Captain Gort at Agmar’s Hammer gives Marked for Death: High Cultist Zangus: “I witnessed his treachery with my own eyes! The traitor led an Anub’ar assault on this stronghold, taking out some of my best soldiers. He’d been working with the Scourge the whole time and we didn’t have a clue!”
For the Horde, Zangus is a personal betrayal, a traitor orc. For the Alliance, he’s an ecological threat identified through divine revelation. Same target, completely different narrative framing.
The Pit of Narjun itself is significant. It is filled with the Black Blood of Yogg-Saron, the dark ichor of the Old God imprisoned beneath Northrend. The pit served as the invasion point from which the Anub’ar nerubians erupted to destroy Icemist Village. It also serves as one of the main surface entrances to the vast underground network of Azjol-Nerub, a fallen nerubian empire that stretches beneath half of Northrend.
Kilix the Unraveler and his Azjol-anak Battleguards, the living nerubians you encounter at the bottom of the pit, represent the resistance.
They survived the War of the Spider, when the Lich King conquered their empire, and are now fighting to reclaim it. If you approach Kilix, an Anub’ar Underlord spawns and threatens you, only for Kilix to kill it: “Betrayers! The day of reckoning comes and with it comes your end!”

Vikstone's War Journal“I have dreamed of Zangus before, but without the context that you have discovered, I knew not what it meant.”

Whatever Elune had shown Moonsong, part of her was still there.
“You have brought clarity to the vision that the goddess has bestowed upon me. Now I know he can be found within the Pit of Narjun to the north. You know your target. If there’s to be an end to the suffering of the land, the high cultist must die.”
Elune herself had marked him.
The Pit of Narjun gaped in the earth ahead, its edges ringed with twisted vegetation that leaned away from the darkness below. I dropped into the depths, following tunnels.
Zangus’s followers met me in the passages and threw themselves at my shield with no regard for their own survival. I gave them what they sought.
The high cultist waited at the heart of the pit. He was exactly what I expected: an orc draped in shadows, his voice a low chant. When he saw me, his lips curled into contempt and amusement.
“Another servant of the dying light.”
Shadowbolts screamed toward me. I caught one on my shield, felt it sizzle against the metal. The second caught my shoulder, pain blooming cold and deep.
His magic quickened, casting speed building with frantic energy. Another bolt, another. I pushed through them.
When my mace finally connected, his arrogance shattered along with his defenses. He fell chanting, still convinced his masters would reward his service.
Moonsong noticed the shadow burns. “With the high cultist destroyed, the rest of his forces can be mopped up and the land and its creatures will recover. Thank you. May the goddess illuminate your path.”
Moonsong’s errands had brought Vikstone to the edge of something larger, since the Kirin Tor had been watching from above and the mages had their own plans, beginning with Attunement to Dalaran.
