Walkthrough

If you followed the advice in the Kill the Cultists guide, you already have this item. It drops from the same Anub’ar Cultists at Icemist Village you were already killing for Functional Cultist Suits. Right-click the item in your inventory to accept the quest.

The item itself is an inscribed token. The text on the back reads: “To my favorite pupil, If you continue to show promise, I will teach you wonders beyond your imaginings. If you do not, I will have you destroyed! As ever, High Cultist Zangus.”

This gives Jodi Moonsong the name of the cult’s leader.

Turn In

Return to Stars’ Rest and speak with Jodi Moonsong. She senses the item immediately: “I sense something foul is near. It is upon your person! What is it?” After reading it, she responds: “So, the leader of the cultists has revealed himself. We have a name. Vanity and pride will be his downfall!”

This sets up the final quest in the chain. Jodi will now send you to kill High Cultist Zangus directly.

Tips

• You should already have this item if you kept killing cultists during Kill the Cultists. If you turned in the suits and left Icemist without it, you’ll need to return and kill more Anub’ar Cultists until it drops.
• Turn in both quests at once. If you’re returning to Stars’ Rest with both the 5 Functional Cultist Suits and the Favor of Zangus, turn in Kill the Cultists first (to receive this quest’s follow-up), then turn in The Favor of Zangus immediately after. This lets you pick up The High Cultist without an extra trip.

Lore Context

Zangus’s inscription reveals the Scourge cult’s internal culture: a hierarchy built on threat and ambition. “If you continue to show promise… If you do not, I will have you destroyed.” The Cult of the Damned offers power to its recruits, but the price of failure is death. This mirrors the broader Scourge philosophy seen throughout WotLK.

Jodi Moonsong’s response is notable for its night elf warden sensibility. She doesn’t react with military urgency; she reads the cult leader like a huntress analyzing prey. “Vanity and pride will be his downfall!”

She’s already identified Zangus’s weakness from a single token, and her follow-up quest proves her right: she tells you she has “dreamed of Zangus” and that Elune has shown her exactly where he is (the Pit of Narjun).
