“The time has come to put an end to this unnatural situation, Vikstone. For the Winterfin murlocs to have a chance at a future, Claximus must die! I want you to take my spare murloc suit and enter the Winterfin Caverns under the pretext of surrender. With the white flag in hand, the murlocs won’t attack you.
You’ll find him in the southwestern most corner of the caverns. Once you get close enough, deal with Claximus. Bring me one of his claws as proof that the grisly deed has been done.”

Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Cave Entrance: [39, 20] (behind Winterfin Village, accessed via a ramp along the cliff face, NOT directly from the village floor)
Claximus Location: [37, 27] (southwestern corner of the caverns, deepest area)
Method 1: The Disguise Approach
CRITICAL: What Breaks the Disguise
Method 2: Fight Your Way Through
The suit is optional. You can fight through the entire cavern to reach Claximus. This takes longer but works fine, especially if you accidentally break the disguise or have other quests to complete inside.
Combat: Claximus
Claximus is a level 72 makrura with two notable abilities:
He’s not particularly difficult for appropriately leveled players. Use cooldowns if you pull additional mobs when breaking the disguise.
Respawn: Approximately 2 minutes if someone just killed him.
Pair With: Other Cavern Quests
Since you’re going to the deepest part of the cavern anyway, complete these along the way:
Pro Tip: If combining quests, wear the suit to walk safely to Claximus first. Kill him, then remove the suit and fight your way back out while completing other objectives. Alternatively, kill the Keymaster (suit off), escort the murloc out, then return with the suit for Claximus.
Story Context: An Assassination Mission
King Mrgl-Mrgl frames this as a necessary evil: “The time has come to put an end to this unnatural situation. For the Winterfin murlocs to have a chance at a future, Claximus must die!”
The plan involves deliberate deception: “I want you to take my spare murloc suit and enter the Winterfin Caverns under the pretext of surrender. With the white flag in hand, the murlocs won’t attack you.”
The white flag is key. In warfare, a white flag signals surrender or parley, a truce to negotiate. You’re exploiting this trust to get close enough to assassinate Claximus.
Upon completion, King Mrgl-Mrgl reflects: “Regrettable, but necessary. I’ll take the claw. Thank you for all of the help you’ve given us. With Claximus defeated, maybe we’ll be able to reunite the remaining murlocs and seal off those caverns.”
Claximus’s Dialogue: He Knows the Truth
Claximus has some revealing things to say when you approach:
That final line is telling. Claximus recognizes that “King Mrgl-Mrgl” is a fraud, a night elf in a costume. The murlocs may be fooled, but the makrura sees through the disguise.
Easter Egg: The Murloc Suit Emotes
This quest features one of WoW’s most beloved costume items. While wearing the suit, try these emotes:
Hidden Details:
Lore: Perfidy and War Crimes
The original walkthrough notes this quest references “perfidy,” which is accurate. Using protected symbols (white flags, Red Cross emblems, surrender signals) to gain advantage in combat is prohibited under international law. It’s considered a war crime because it undermines the trust that makes peaceful negotiations and medical care possible in conflict zones.
King Mrgl-Mrgl, despite being a D.E.H.T.A. agent dedicated to protecting animals, essentially asks you to commit perfidy against the mind-controlled murlocs. The ends (saving the tribe) justify the means (false surrender assassination) in his view.
Why You Can’t Keep the Suit
The costume can only be used in Winterfin Village and Winterfin Caverns, making it geographically locked even if you don’t turn in the quest.

Vikstone's War JournalI wore the suit.

The green corduroy fit poorly, the zipper dug into my back, and I carried a white flag in one hand like a fool marching to his own surrender. But King Mrgl-Mrgl’s plan was sound: the mind-controlled murlocs wouldn’t attack someone coming to capitulate.
“The time has come to put an end to this,” the night elf had said. “For the Winterfin to have a future, Claximus must die. You’ll find him in the southwestern corner of the caverns. Once you’re close enough, deal with him. Bring me a claw as proof.”
The caverns were dark, phosphorescent algae casting sickly light on the walls, and corrupted murlocs watched me pass with empty eyes, seeing only the flag. I shuffled deeper, playing the part.
Claximus waited in his chamber. Makrura, I was told. A lobster grown to nightmare proportions, chitinous shell gleaming with arcane residue from Coldarra’s leaked magic.
“You’re not one of mine,” he said. “King Mrgl-Mrgl must have sent you to talk terms of surrender. Come closer so that I might see you better.”
I came closer.
“What tiny morsel comes this way?” His antennae twitched. “Not one of the murloc, I think. It’s been a long time since last I tasted elf.”
The suit came off faster than it went on.
His claws were fast, and I took a glancing blow that numbed my shield arm, gave back a strike that cracked chitin. He was strong, but makrura aren’t built for close combat with something that won’t stay in their grip. I spun outside his reach, found the joints, hammered until something vital gave way.
It was one claw I was able to pick off, mostly unscathed. Proof enough.
“Regrettable, but necessary, ” King Mrgl-Mrgl said. “With Claximus defeated, maybe we’ll be able to reunite the remaining murlocs and seal off those caverns.”
He looked at me. “Please, my friend. Take this. It’s the least I can do for all you’ve rendered us.”
Claximus was dead and the deeper chambers were still locked. The way forward was hanging off the belt of Keymaster Urmgrgl somewhere down in the tunnels.
