“Vikstone, head back down there! You’ll find the leader of Kolramas, Malas the Corrupter, gloating from atop the crashed necropolis. Kill him and bring me his head!”
-Sergeant Moonshard
Sergeant Moonshard at Drak’Sotra insists that you return with the Head of the Corrupter.

You will be able to choose one of these rewards:
Upon completion of this quest you will gain:
Quest Giver: Sergeant Moonshard — Drak’Sotra, Zul’Drak [58, 72]
Objective: Kill Malas the Corrupter and return the Head of the Corrupter.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Malas sits atop the crashed Kolramas necropolis, around [61, 77].
With flying mount (level 77+): Fly directly to the top platform. Land away from Malas and prepare before engaging.
Without flying mount: Enter the crashed necropolis at [59, 79] on the west side, near the lava pool. Turn right and follow the ramp of green stepping-stone platforms up. You’ll reach a tunnel at approximately [60, 80]. Go through the tunnel and continue up the path to the rooftop where Malas waits.
Clear the patrolling Hath’ar Necromagi on the ramp and in the room below before engaging the boss. You do not want adds during this fight.
The Fight
Malas is a level 76 Elite with approximately 66k HP and three abilities:
Key mechanics to remember:
Solo Strategy (General)
Despite the “2 players suggested” tag, most classes can solo Malas with proper play. The fight revolves around one principle: don’t stand in the fire, and don’t get stunned while standing in the fire.
Keep moving around the rooftop platform in a circle. When Burning Blaze appears under you, step back. When Raging Shadows starts casting, interrupt it. If Wavering Will lands on you, dispel it immediately if you can, or use a PvP trinket to break free.
Pet classes (Hunters, Warlocks, Frost Mages, Unholy DKs): Send your pet in first. Keep your pet out of the fire patches using passive/follow commands. The fight becomes much easier when Malas is hitting a pet instead of you. Warlocks with Voidwalker and Hunters with Tenacity pets report the easiest time. Keep Mend Pet or Health Funnel running throughout.
Melee classes: Move in a slow circle around the platform, backing away from fire. Use stuns to create healing windows. Don’t fall off the edge. The platform has uneven terrain and at least one small crack you can fall through.
Casters/kiters: Kite Malas around the rooftop ring using instant-cast spells and DoTs. Do NOT kite too far ahead or Malas will reset. Stay within roughly a quarter of the ring’s circumference from him. Shadow Priests report strong success with DoTs and Vampiric Embrace while kiting.
If you fall off the platform: You’ll land on the second floor or the ground. Malas may or may not follow you down. In many cases he resets, which means you’ll need to fight him fresh. Clear the mob in the room below the rooftop before the fight starts, just in case.
Tips
Lore Context
Malas is the Scourge commander of the crashed necropolis Kolramas. He’s been raising fallen Argent Crusade soldiers as undead, which is what drove Sergeant Moonshard’s personal vendetta in the previous quest.
This is the payoff to Moonshard’s emotional turn-in: the sergeant demanded Malas’s head, literally.
Malas periodically yells taunts that reveal his position in the Scourge hierarchy. He references both the Drakkari and the Argent Crusade as targets, and notably mentions “stealing the power of your wild gods,” connecting his operations to the broader Zul’Drak storyline about the Drakkari sacrificing their loa.
The Scourge planned to steal loa power regardless of whether the Drakkari killed them first.
One yell is particularly telling: “Many Argent Dawn are numbered amongst the simpletons that have fallen before me. The Argent Crusade will prove no different.” He references the Argent Dawn by its old name, suggesting he’s been fighting the Light’s champions since before the organizations merged under Tirion Fordring.
Moonshard kicks Malas’s severed head away and says he’ll mount it on a pike. The reward names reflect this: “Leggings of Fastidious Decapitation” (precise beheading), “Ceremonial Pike Leggings” (Moonshard’s stated plan for the head), and “Legguards of Solemn Revenge” (honoring fallen comrades).
The Hath’ar nerubians serving under Malas are undead nerubians, raised and controlled by the Scourge. They are distinct from the living nerubians of Azjol-Nerub, who resisted the Lich King, and even further removed from the independent nerubians of Azj-Kahet revealed in The War Within.

Vikstone's War JournalKolramas. Moonshard’s orders: bring back Malas’s head. Simple words. Bloody work.

Erytria and Elliptical came with me. Two death knights, both carrying the Lich King’s own magic turned back against his servants. The runeblade that once raised the dead, now used to put them down for good.
The nerubian waited atop his crashed necropolis, chitinous limbs clicking against stone. He saw three figures climbing toward him and didn’t flinch.
“You cannot stand against the might of the Lich King, mortals!” His voice dripped contempt. “Many Argent Dawn are numbered amongst the simpletons that have fallen before me. The Argent Crusade will prove no different.”
Fire erupted beneath my feet. I rolled clear. Erytria wasn’t as quick, caught the edge of the blaze and pushed through it, dark runes absorbing what they could. Shadow magic raked across us next, a pulse that stunned Elliptical mid-stride. The gnome shook it off fast.
Then the slow hit. Dark power dragging at my limbs like wading through tar. Malas was buying himself room, trying to keep all three of us at range.
Three melee fighters against a caster. He needed distance. We didn’t give him any.
Erytria closed first, chains of frost locking the nerubian’s legs in place. Elliptical flanked low, the advantage of being waist-high to everything, and hit into the joints where chitin met chitin. I came through the middle.
“If you kill them, I will simply reanimate their corpses,” Malas hissed, backing toward the necropolis edge. “And when you die, I will do the same to—”
The greataxe connected. He tried to back away, summon more fire, but I was already through his guard.
The head came away with effort. Chitin doesn’t cut clean.
Moonshard kicked it aside when we returned. “You’re the hero of the hour. You deserve our deepest respect.”
The fallen could rest now.
Moonshard kicked the head aside and Kolramas fell quiet. The nerubians had left one more problem behind in Cocooned!
