The Gods Have Spoken

Quest 1 of 2 in the Convocation Chain
Group Quest
Alliance • Zul'Drak • Level 77 • Zim'Rhuk / Altar of Quetz'lun
Collect the Unblemished Heart of the Guardian from Zim'Rhuk [60, 44] and the Gusty Essence of the Warden from the Altar of Quetz'lun [75, 58]. Deliver both to Har'koa.
Both objectives require killing elite mobs. The Zim'Rhuk guardians are enchanted stone constructs with high HP. Quetz'lun's wardens are fast-hitting wind serpents. Bring a group. Tank-specced soloists can attempt both, but it's a long grind at level. Group of 2-3 makes this quick. Quetz'lun's wardens are neutral until attacked (your prior arrangement holds). Har'koa fashions the relics into a summon for the final confrontation.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
The Zul'Aman spirits said the prophet was likely too powerful and they'd probably die trying. Septem touched the Light at his chest, Dowilob checked her weapons, and the three of them went anyway.

“The gods have spoken and we must heed their wisdom. Travel north to Zim’Rhuk to destroy guardians there until they yield the unblemished heart. Travel east to the Altar of Quetz’lun and disrupt the altar wardens until you recover their gusty essence.

Deliver both to Har’koa and she will combine them into that which will compel late Akali’s prophet to appear.”

END

Deliver the Unblemished Heart of the Guardian and the Gusty Essence of the Warden to Har’koa at Zim’Torga.

  • Unblemished Heart of the Guardian
  • Gusty Essence of the Warden

Defeat the Guardians of Zim'Rhuk:
Location: Guardians are found at 60, 45 in Zul'Drak.
Tactics:
Guardians have Whammy, a transformation ability that can hex you, dealing significant damage (around 2,000-3,000).
Use stuns, snares, and ranged abilities to avoid close contact. Frost Mages and other ranged classes should focus on kiting them and using spell interrupts and crowd control.
Tip for Warriors: Spell Reflect can be useful for the hex (Whammy).
Tip for Warlocks: Voidwalker is an excellent tank, but watch your threat. Curse of Weakness works well for reducing their damage.
Defeat the Altar Wardens:
Location: Wardens are located at 72, 58 in Zul'Drak.
Defeat the Guardians of Zim’Rhuk: Location: Guardians are found at 60, 45 in Zul’Drak.
Defeat the Altar Wardens: Location: Wardens are located at 72, 58 in Zul’Drak.

Walkthrough

Quest Giver: Witch Doctor Khufu — Zim’Torga, Zul’Drak [59, 57]

Turn In: Har’koa — Zim’Torga [59, 57]

Type: Group (Suggested 3 players)

Objective: Deliver the Unblemished Heart of the Guardian and the Gusty Essence of the Warden to Har’koa at Zim’Torga.

Walkthrough

  • This quest requires two drops from elite mobs in different locations. The quest suggests grouping with 3 players, though most classes can solo it with care.
  • Unblemished Heart of the Guardian: Kill Guardians of Zim’Rhuk at Zim’Rhuk [60, 45], northeast of the Amphitheater of Anguish. These are elite Drakkari golems (Elemental type) with roughly 33,000 HP.
  • Gusty Essence of the Warden: Kill Altar Wardens at the Altar of Quetz’lun [72, 58]. These are elite wind elementals with similar health.
  • Neither item has a 100% drop rate.
  • Return both items to Har’koa (not Khufu) at Zim’Torga.

Combat: Guardians of Zim’Rhuk

  • Whammy: Their signature ability. Deals Nature damage and hexes you into a frog for 3 seconds. While hexed, you cannot attack or cast spells.
  • Critical: Whammy is a melee ability, not a spell. It can be dodged, parried, or missed. It cannot be Spell Reflected. Warriors should not rely on Spell Reflect here.
  • Immune to disease and fear. Death Knights lose a lot of their toolkit; Warlocks can’t fear-kite.
  • Snareable and stunnable. Frost effects, stuns, and roots all work.
  • Hit for roughly 1,200 on plate gear.
  • Best approach: Kite them. They’re slow enough to maintain distance. Frost Mages, Balance Druids, and Hunters have the easiest time. Melee classes should use stuns and defensive cooldowns to power through the hex windows.

Combat: Altar Wardens

  • Gust of Wind: Knocks you back and into the air, dealing Nature damage.
  • Whirling Winds: Self-buff that increases move speed by 25% and attack/cast speed by 10% for 1.5 minutes. Mages can Spellsteal this for a nice buff.
  • Immune to Nature damage. Elemental Shamans and Balance Druids need to adjust (use Lava Burst/Fire spells instead of Chain Lightning/Wrath).
  • Fearable. Warlocks, Warriors, and Priests can fear them.
  • Slow-moving even with Whirling Winds up. Casters can kite them in circles using instant-cast DoTs. Several players report “moonfire kiting” or “frost shock kiting” these to death with no trouble.
  • Much easier than the Guardians overall.

Soloing Tips

  • Hunters: Pet tank, Mend Pet, Misdirection. Straightforward.
  • Feral Druids: Bear Form handles both mob types comfortably. Bash to heal if needed.
  • Frost Mages: Easily soloable. Keep Slow up on Guardians, Spellsteal Whirling Winds from Wardens.
  • Shadow Priests: Guardians are tough (immune to fear, hex interrupts your casts). Kite using strafing to gain distance. Wardens are much easier.
  • Death Knights: Guardians are immune to disease, which hurts Unholy DKs significantly. Bring defensive cooldowns, rotate Gargoyle and Ghoul.
  • Rogues: Difficult but doable with Evasion, Kidney Shot, and burst cooldowns. Prepare potions.

Efficiency Tips

  • Do the Guardians first. They’re harder and have worse drop rates for most players. If you find a group, prioritize Zim’Rhuk.
  • Drakkari Offerings: While at Zim’Rhuk, you can present 10 Drakkari Offerings to the statue of Zim’Rhuk the Wise One for the Blessing of Zim’Rhuk, a useful zone buff. If you’ve been collecting offerings from Zul’Drak mobs, now’s the time to use them.
  • Wardens are at the Altar of Quetz’lun [72, 58], the same area you visited during the Quetz’lun underworld questline. The physical-world version has these wind elementals patrolling. Watch for nearby Scions that will aggro if you fight a Warden too close.

Story Context

This quest directly follows the Zul’Aman loa spirits’ guidance from the Rampage turn-in. Nalorakk told you to find the “unblemished heart of the guardian” at Zim’Rhuk, and Jan’alai told you to gather the “gusty essence” from Quetz’lun’s deceased wardens.

Khufu relays their instructions, and Har’koa will combine both items into something that can compel the Prophet of Akali (Gal’darah) to appear.

Har’koa’s completion text is resigned but determined: she’ll fashion the items into a lure for the prophet. The next step is Convocation at Zol’Heb.

Lore Note: Zim’Rhuk the Wise One

  • Zim’Rhuk is one of Zul’Drak’s “forgotten gods,” a deity who communicates not through speech but by projecting images and emotions directly into visitors’ minds. He’s never called a loa despite being worshipped by the Drakkari. His guardians (the golems you’re killing here) were created to protect his domain, and he’s described as both frustrated and impressed when adventurers manage to evade them. Unlike the major loa being sacrificed, Zim’Rhuk seems to have been simply neglected by the Drakkari rather than targeted.

Warrior IconVikstone's War Journal

The gods spoke through Khufu, not Har’koa or the Drakkari loa. The Zul’Aman spirits: Halazzi, Nalorakk, Jan’alai, Akil’zon. Animal gods from a jungle half a world away, reaching across to warn us.

Vikstone Portrait Act 2
Illustrated by Christian DiBari and Simon Gough.

They saw doom in our future. Said Akali’s prophet was likely too powerful. Said we’d probably die.

“Still, you must try.”

Dowilob and Septem hadn’t heard the spirits speak. The look on my face told them enough. Septem touched the Light at his chest, a paladin’s reflex before walking into something bad. Dowilob just checked her weapons and nodded.

Zim’Rhuk first. The guardians there were built for war, living stone enchanted to outlast their makers. The three of us ground through them one by one, Septem’s Light keeping us whole while Dowilob and I broke them apart. The Unblemished Heart came from the last one’s chest, still warm.

Quetz’lun’s altar next. Her wardens had been neutral since I helped her revenge, but neutral ended when we came for the Gusty Essence. They fought like wind given form, fast and sharp. Septem caught a blast that spun him sideways. Dowilob dragged him clear while I held the line. The essence came from the third.

Har’koa took both relics. “Your bravery seems boundless. I will fashion them into that which will compel the prophet to appear.”

The prophet who killed Akali, the one who held four gods’ stolen power.

The Zul’Aman spirits said we’d probably die. We’d see.

The final confrontation with a troll carrying the stolen power of four gods requires everything Vikstone and his companions have left in Convocation at Zol’Heb.
