Lore Context
The handoff between Lantinga and Stefan Vadu is one of WotLK’s best pieces of inter-faction characterization.
Lantinga divides the work: the Argent Crusade will handle Prince Navarius at Zeramas, while the Ebon Blade deals with Drakuru. But Stefan’s reaction tells you everything about the power dynamic between these factions. He reads the orders, crumples them up, tosses them into the fire, and says: “Old news. The Argent Crusade is, once again, late to the party. We’ve been tracking Drakuru since Grizzly Hills. He is slated for eradication.”
The Ebon Blade doesn’t just know about Drakuru; they’ve been ahead of the Crusade the entire time.
This mirrors the tension from Lantinga’s side in Orders From Drakuru, where he mutters about “those scoundrels” and Light’s Hope. Both factions need each other but neither is happy about it. The Battle for Light’s Hope Chapel, where the death knights broke free from the Lich King’s control, left deep scars on both sides.
Stefan’s mention of tracking Drakuru “since Grizzly Hills” is a direct callback to the player’s own experience. If you completed Drakuru’s manipulation questline in Grizzly Hills, you already know he’s dangerous. Now you learn the Ebon Blade has been watching the whole time.

Vikstone's War JournalThe path to Ebon Watch cut through Scourge-held ruins. Lantinga hadn’t exaggerated. I carved my way west, the Titansteel Destroyer doing its work, and found the death knight encampment nestled in the gray.
Stefan Vadu, their commander, read the orders without expression. Then he crumpled the parchment and tossed it into the fire.
“Old news. The Argent Crusade is, once again, late to the party.” The flames consumed Drakuru’s words. “We’ve been tracking Drakuru since Grizzly Hills. He is slated for eradication.”
Since Grizzly Hills? While I was running errands for the troll, the Ebon Blade was already hunting him.
I watched the parchment blacken. The death knight’s efficiency should have bothered me. Instead, I found it clarifying. A target, the patience to destroy it, everything else stripped away.
“Slated for eradication” was a phrase I could work with.
The Ebon Blade doesn’t waste time on pleasantries. Stefan had a target list before Vikstone finished sitting down, and the first names on it need killing in Kickin’ Nass and Takin’ Manes.
