Placing Hodir’s Helm

Quest Giver: Njormeld — Dun Niffelem, Storm Peaks [65, 60]

Objective: Fly to the sparkling ice spike in Dun Niffelem and use the Tablets of Pronouncement to present Hodir’s Helm to the Sons of Hodir.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Find the Correct Ice Spike

• The spike is at [64.2, 59.2], between Lorekeeper Randvir and the Frostworg Denmother. It is a shorter spike, not the massive chained one that dominates the skyline. Look for quest sparkles at its tip.
• Orientation tip: Stand behind King Jokkum and face the direction he faces. The spike is roughly northwest, at about a 45-degree angle to your right.

Step 2: Use the Tablets of Pronouncement

• Fly up to the sparkling tip and use the Tablets of Pronouncement from your inventory. You do not need to dismount or land on the spike. Just hover near the tip.
• Your character will announce to the assembled frost giants: “Sons of Hodir! I humbly present to you… The Helm of Hodir!”
• The helm will appear on the spike and the quest completes.

Step 3: Return to Njormeld

• Head back to Njormeld to turn in.

Tips

• Can’t see sparkles? Some players report the sparkles are faint or fail to render at lower graphic settings. If you’re having trouble, try relogging or simply flying to [64.2, 59.2] and using the item.
• Druids in Flight Form: Later patches allowed use of the Tablets in Flight Form. If it doesn’t work, shift out, click the item mid-fall, and immediately shift back.
• Don’t try to land on it. You can die from fall attempts. Hovering near the tip is all you need.

Lore Context

This is a ceremonial moment. Njormeld has forged a protective helm for Dun Niffelem using Stormforged Eyes you harvested from iron giant corpses, and you’ve been given the unprecedented honor of presenting it. No outsider has ever been granted this privilege among the Sons of Hodir.

Njormeld’s completion text, “That will do, little <race>. That will do…” is a reference to the film Babe (1995), echoing Farmer Hoggett’s famous line to his unlikely sheep-herding pig. Fitting, given that your character is an unlikely small ally earning the respect of literal giants.

Rename Note: This quest was originally called “Mounting Hodir’s Helm” and was renamed to “Placing Hodir’s Helm” in Patch 9.1.5 (November 2, 2021), well before WotLK Classic launched. Part of the same content sensitivity pass that renamed several other Sons of Hodir quests: “Blowing Hodir’s Horn” became “Hodir’s Call,” “Polishing the Helm” became “A Viscous Cleaning,” and “Thrusting Hodir’s Spear” became “How To Slay Your Dragon.”
