Use the Diamond Tipped Pick on Dead Iron Giants to collect 8 Stormforged Eyes.

Frostfield Lake, not Thunderfall. Both are frozen fields full of corpses and people routinely fly to the wrong one. Target a Dead Iron Giant and use the pick. Either an eye drops straight into your bags, or three Stormforged Ambushers climb out of the corpse, and one or two of those carry eyes as well, so the ambush is a bonus rather than a setback. They also drop Relics of Ulduar. The corpses are phased to this quest and vanish permanently once you turn it in, so if you are still grinding reputation, farm the ambushers before you hand it over. Do Hot and Cold on the same trip since it runs in this lake.

Vikstone's Classic Expedition

Jokkum had recommended Vikstone for this personally. Njormeld wanted the eyes of the enemy dead built into a helm that would watch the approaches to Dun Niffelem, and some of those corpses were not finished yet.

“Greetings, Night Elf. I have a task that King Jokkum felt you would be suited for, assuming you still strive to gain favor with our people. I have developed plans for another artifact, one that will grant Hodir’s blessing of protection to our stronghold. I have nearly all that I require for its construction. All that remains to collect are the very eyes of our fallen enemies.

Take this tool, and gather the eyes from the iron giant corpses that litter our fields.”

Objective: Use the Diamond Tipped Pick on Dead Iron Giants around Frostfield Lake to obtain Stormforged Eyes. These can be directly looted or dropped by ambushers that spawn upon using the pick.
Unlock the Quest:
You must have Friendly reputation with the Sons of Hodir to accept this quest.
Complete the preceding quests in the chain (starting with Forging an Alliance) if necessary.
Locate Dead Iron Giants:
Coordinates: Frostfield Lake, around 70,60, to the east of Dun Niffelem.
Look for the large, dead iron giants scattered in the area.
Use the Diamond Tipped Pick:
Target a Dead Iron Giant and use the Diamond Tipped Pick (provided by the quest). — **Quest Giver:** Njormeld in Dun Niffelem, Storm Peaks.
**Locate Dead Iron Giants:** **Coordinates:** Frostfield Lake, around 70,60, to the east of Dun Niffelem. Look for the large, dead iron giants scattered in the area. Target a Dead Iron Giant and use the Diamond Tipped Pick (provided by the quest).

Objective: Use the Diamond Tipped Pick on Dead Iron Giants at Frostfield Lake to collect 8 Stormforged Eyes.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Locate Dead Iron Giants

Fly east from Dun Niffelem to Frostfield Lake around [69, 58] to [71, 62]. The Dead Iron Giants are large iron dwarf corpses scattered across the area.
These corpses are phased. They only appear while you have this quest active.

Step 2: Use the Diamond Tipped Pick

Target a Dead Iron Giant and use the Diamond Tipped Pick from your inventory. One of two things will happen:
- You receive a Stormforged Eye directly, or
- 3 Stormforged Ambushers (iron dwarf mobs) spawn from the corpse. They’re low-health and die quickly. One or more will drop a Stormforged Eye when looted.
Repeat until you have all 8 eyes.

Step 3: Return to Njormeld

Head back to Dun Niffelem and turn in at Njormeld.

Efficiency Tips

Ambushers are a bonus, not a penalty. When ambushers spawn, they can each drop a Stormforged Eye, potentially netting you multiple eyes from a single giant. They also drop Relics of Ulduar, making this a solid spot for bonus reputation items.
Hunters: Feign Death does not prevent ambushers from spawning. You’ll need to fight them.
Druids: You can use the pick in Flight Form, then take off if ambushers spawn. Useful on PvP servers.
Don’t rush to finish. If you’re still grinding Sons of Hodir reputation, the phased Dead Iron Giants are a reliable source of ambusher spawns that drop Relics of Ulduar. Once you turn in the quest, these corpses disappear permanently.
Do Alongside: You’re already at Frostfield Lake, so complete Hot and Cold (Brittle Revenants for Essence of Ice) in the same trip.

Lore Context

Njormeld is building a protective artifact for Dun Niffelem using the eyes of fallen iron dwarves.

These Stormforged constructs are Loken’s soldiers, the titan-forged who were corrupted by Yogg-Saron and turned against their former allies. Repurposing their components into a warning system for the frost giants is a small act of poetic justice.

This quest leads directly into Placing Hodir’s Helm, where you get the honor of presenting the completed artifact to King Jokkum and the assembled Sons of Hodir. That quest in turn unlocks the daily A Viscous Cleaning in Hibernal Cavern, adding another 350 reputation per day to your grind.

Another artifact. He built the last one out of their own broken horn. This one is to be built out of what the enemy saw with.

The dead iron giants lie half in the water at Frostfield Lake, where I burned the revenants some weeks back. The Diamond Tipped Pick goes through the plate over the socket with a great deal of noise and the eye comes out whole.

Three of the corpses still had something in them. Stormforged Ambushers, folded up inside the chest cavity, and they came out gears-first while I was bent over the skull with both hands occupied. The claymore settled it. They were carrying eyes as well, which struck me as a flaw in somebody’s design.

“It is nearly done,” Njormeld said. “With this artifact in place, Dun Niffelem shall be warned of impending dangers before they are upon us.”

Njormeld had his eyes and a helm to set them in, and a watchman built from enemy dead is no use lying in a forge, so the last step was Placing Hodir’s Helm.
