Walkthrough

Before You Enter

• If you have the optional quest The Slithering Darkness (kill 8 jormungar in Hibernal Cavern), complete it before mounting the bear. Mounting the matriarch triggers an auto-ride back to the village, so you won’t be able to backtrack. Doing both in one trip saves a return visit.

Getting to Hibernal Cavern

• Fly east from Brunnhildar Village to the cave entrance at [55, 63], located between the village and Dun Niffelem. The area outside the cave has Frostworg and jormungar patrols, so land near the entrance and head in.

Finding the Matriarch

• The Injured Icemaw Matriarch is deep inside the cave at approximately [54.8, 60.4]. Head toward the back of the cave. Clear jormungar as you go, especially if working on The Slithering Darkness.
• The matriarch is a large white bear lying on the ground. Don’t confuse her with other bears near the entrance. Look specifically for the injured one deeper in.

Mounting and Return

• Click the matriarch to mount her using the Runed Harness. She acts as a vehicle and automatically rides back to Astrid at Brunnhildar Village. You don’t need to steer.
• Do not dismount during the ride back. Let the auto-ride complete. Dismounting early may cause credit issues.
• The matriarch handles any aggro from cave mobs on the way out, so don’t worry about the return path.

Lore Context

Astrid explains that the Hyldnir have always sourced their best warbears from Hibernal Cavern, but ravenous jormungar have overrun the cave and driven the wild bear population to near-extinction.

A wild-born matriarch would be far superior to captivity-raised bears, making this one an exceptional find. Astrid’s reaction on turn-in captures this: “I’m impressed. I never thought I would see an icemaw matriarch again. Especially not one this size.”

This matriarch becomes your permanent mount for the remaining Hyldsmeet trials. You’ll ride her in The Warm-Up (a named combat fight) and Into the Pit (a bear-fighting arena that becomes a repeatable daily). The bond between Hyldnir warrior and warbear is central to their culture, and earning a wild matriarch is a mark of distinction among the competitors.

Easter Eggs

• If you check your talent pane while mounted on the matriarch, you’ll see a second set of talents displayed below yours, similar to a Hunter’s pet talent tree. The bear apparently has her own “build.”
• Double-clicking the matriarch rapidly can spawn duplicate bears that all run back to the village simultaneously. A harmless visual bug that has been reported before.
