The Wasp Hunter’s Apprentice

Both Factions • Sholazar Basin • Level 76 • Frenzyheart Hill
Kill 6 Sapphire Hive Wasps and 9 Sapphire Hive Drones for High-Shaman Rakjak.
High-Shaman Rakjak at Frenzyheart Hill (55, 69) hands you off to Dajik the Wasp Hunter, who replaces Goregek as your companion and heals you instead of taking credit. Blizzard's own directions offer two options: the Sapphire Hive to the southeast, or the river to the south. Drones are aggressive, so pull with that in mind. Important: Dajik can spawn hostile the same way Goregek does. Do not attack him. Use Dajik's Worn Chalk to dismiss and resummon him, and see Elder Harkek at Frenzyheart Hill if you lose the chalk. Worth knowing: Dajik keeps healing you for as long as this quest sits in your log, and he will follow you anywhere in the zone. If you play a class without heals, hold the turn-in and let him tag along through the rest of your Sholazar quests. Take The Sapphire Queen before you leave, since she lives in the same hive.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
This wolvar kept Vikstone standing while three wasps worked him over, which was more than the last one had managed. Rakjak's verdict was that the hive would never run out of wasps, which was less a complaint than a plan.

“Rakjak not dumb. Maybe you good at killing things. Maybe Frenzyheart can make you into real hunter. Dajik hunts giant wasp things better than all wolvar. Go with Dajik to Sapphire Hive to southeast or to river in south and learn the hunt.”

Objective: Kill 6 Sapphire Hive Wasps and 9 Sapphire Hive Drones. If you lose Dajik’s Worn Chalk, speak to Elder Harkek at Frenzyheart Hill.

Quick Facts

Walkthrough

When you accept this quest, Dajik the Wasp Hunter replaces Goregek as your wolvar companion. Dajik is a healer who will cast heals on you during and after combat (roughly 500-900 per cast, triggered when you drop below ~50% health).

Known issue: Like Goregek before him, Dajik may initially spawn hostile. Do NOT attack him. Use Dajik’s Worn Chalk to dismiss him, then use it again to resummon him as friendly.

Head to the Sapphire Hive area at [59, 79], southeast of Frenzyheart Hill. The quest text also mentions the river to the south as an alternate location. Kill 6 Sapphire Hive Wasps and 9 Sapphire Hive Drones. The Drones are aggressive; the Wasps may not be, so pull carefully.

Return to High-Shaman Rakjak at Frenzyheart Hill [55, 69] to turn in.

Efficiency Tips

  • Delay your turn-in. Dajik heals you as long as this quest is active. Non-healing classes (rogues, hunters, warriors) benefit enormously from keeping him around while completing other Sholazar quests. He’ll follow you anywhere in the zone.
  • Pick up The Sapphire Queen at the same time. Both quests are at the Sapphire Hive, and you’ll be killing wasps and drones while heading to the queen’s location inside the cave.
  • Jewelcrafters: After completing this quest, you should hit Friendly with the Frenzyheart Tribe. The Frenzyheart quartermaster at Frenzyheart Hill sells a green Jewelcrafting pattern at Friendly. If you plan to switch to the Oracles later, buy it now before your Frenzyheart rep drops.

Lore & Secrets

A Friendlier Wolvar

Dajik is a noticeable contrast to Goregek. Where Goregek was aggressive, insulting, and self-aggrandizing, Dajik is polite, helpful, and offers genuine (if obvious) advice. He also disapproves of Goregek’s cruelty toward the Softknuckles.

If you return to the Softknuckle area with Dajik, he comments: “If you here to poke more softknuckles, Dajik going to poke you too. That a bad Goregek habit.”

The Three Companions

Dajik is the second of three wolvar companions you receive during the Frenzyheart chain: Goregek (melee fighter), Dajik (healer), and Zepik (obtained later). Each has a different role and personality, and if you ultimately choose the Frenzyheart faction, you can summon any of them as permanent companions for dailies.

Working with Dajik proved an interesting experience.

Unlike Goregek’s constant strutting, this one knew his business. He signaled our approach to the Sapphire Hive with practiced hand gestures, though I was fairly certain one of them was just scratching his nose.

“Dajik hunts giant wasp things better than all wolvar,” Rakjak had said. For once, the boast wasn’t entirely hollow.

The wasps weren’t garden variety stingers. Big enough to carry off a gnome, with wings that droned loud enough to drown out everything else. The wasps forced me to time my swings between their diving attacks.

Dajik watched it all, occasionally barking what might have been tactical advice. Hard to tell between his broken Common and the fact that he was healing me while ducking stingers himself. Still, his support proved invaluable. When three wasps decided to coordinate their assault, his healing kept me on my feet long enough to put them down.

He was grinning by the end.

Back at Frenzyheart Hill, Rakjak said, “We kill many many wasps. Rakjak don’t think they run out.”

Probably not. But at least I’d graduated from “slave” to “apprentice.”

Progress.

Dajik was worth keeping around, and the hive had one resident the drones were dying to protect, which made the trip back inside a matter of introducing himself to The Sapphire Queen.
