The Underground Menace

Quest 2 of 2 in the Chicken House Chain
Both Factions • Sholazar Basin • Level 77 • Frenzyheart Hill
Find and kill Serfex the Reaver beneath the southern river, then bring his claw to High-Shaman Rakjak.
Elder Harkek at Frenzyheart Hill (55, 69) offers you a way out of slavery: kill the thing under the sand that has been eating wolvar. Head to the sandy banks of the southern river and watch for patches of rumbling, shifting ground. Walking over one forces Serfex up. He is level 78 and not elite, so most classes drop him without trouble. Loot the Claw of Serfex and hand it to Rakjak. Tips: He roams the riverbank rather than sitting at a fixed point, and respawns within about a minute if someone beat you to him, so keep moving and keep checking. A flying mount makes the rumbling ground much easier to spot. Hunters can find him fast with Track Beasts. Take Mischief in the Making along, since the Skyreach Crystal Clusters sit on the same stretch of river.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
The riverbed was littered with crushed wasps and pieces of hunters who had gone looking for Serfex first. Rakjak's theory was that Vikstone had followed some braver wolvar and stolen the claw, and he kept the claw regardless.

“Lion killer, chicken chaser, new Frenzyheart slave…

I know you no want to stay slave, so I tell you what to do. Show you better than the other Frenzyheart hunters and then Rakjak respect you. Under sands of south river there a beast that kills wasp, apes, and even wolvar. He called Serfex. You bring claw of Serfex to Rakjak and maybe he release you from slaveness.

Hope Dajik teaching you good so Serfex be easy stuff.”

-Elder Harkek

Start

Locate Serfex the Reaver under the sands of the southern river, slay him, and bring his claw to High-Shaman Rakjak at Frenzyheart Hill. If you lose Dajik’s Worn Chalk, speak to Elder Harkek in Frenzyheart Hill.

  • Claw of Serfex

Objective: Locate and kill Serfex the Reaver, a sandworm, to collect proof of your success.
Quest Giver: Dajik the Wasp Hunter, as part of the Frenzyheart Tribe questline.
Quest Location: Sandy banks along the river near The Skyreach Pillar, Sholazar Basin (approx. 49–58, 83–86).
Find Serfex:
Look for rumbling patches of loose ground along the southern riverbanks near The Skyreach Pillar.
These patches indicate Serfex’s spawn points. Walking over them will trigger Serfex to emerge.
Spawn Points:
Common coordinates: 49.8, 85.1, 51.86, 58,83.
Travel along the south side of the river for fewer mob encounters and a better chance of spotting the rumbling ground.
Engage Serfex:
Serfex is a non-elite Level 77–78 sandworm and is easy to defeat.
Be prepared for quick respawns; Serfex can respawn within a minute or less.

Walkthrough

Quest Giver: Elder Harkek at Frenzyheart Hill [55, 69]

Objective: Locate and kill Serfex the Reaver beneath the sands of the southern river, then bring his claw to High-Shaman Rakjak.

Quick Facts

  • Level Required: 76
  • Prerequisite: Flown the Coop!
  • Turn-in: High-Shaman Rakjak at Frenzyheart Hill [55, 69]
  • Do Alongside: Mischief in the Making (Skyreach Crystal Clusters are found along the same riverbanks)

Walkthrough

Elder Harkek wants you to prove yourself by hunting down Serfex the Reaver, a bone worm that burrows beneath the sandy riverbanks south of The Skyreach Pillar. Head to the southern river and look for rumbling patches of loose ground on the sandy banks. Walk over the rumbling ground to force Serfex to the surface.

He’s a level 78 non-elite with approximately 11,770 HP, so he’s an easy solo kill. Loot the Claw of Serfex and return to High-Shaman Rakjak.

Serfex can spawn anywhere along the river, with commonly reported locations including [50, 85], [51, 86], [58, 83], and [49, 84]. Look for dead Sapphire Hive Wasp corpses on the sand, as these indicate nearby spawn points.

Efficiency Tips

  • Pick up Mischief in the Making first. Both quests send you to the same stretch of river. Collect Skyreach Crystal Clusters along the banks while searching for Serfex to save a trip.
  • Fast respawn. If someone just killed Serfex, he can respawn at the same or a different location within about 50 seconds. Keep moving along the riverbanks and check the rumbling spots.
  • Hunters: Track Beasts will detect Serfex, making the search much faster.
  • Use a flying mount. The rumbling rocks are visible from the air, making Serfex much easier to spot before landing.

Lore & Secrets

Dajik’s Farewell

  • This is your last outing with Dajik as your companion. Dajik is the only wolvar companion who never calls you “<race>” or “slave thing.” To Dajik, you are “Learner.” Elder Harkek signs off with “Hope Dajik teaching you good so Serfex be easy stuff.”

“Chicken Chaser”

  • Elder Harkek’s quest text opens with: “Lion killer, chicken chaser, new Frenzyheart slave…” The “chicken chaser” title refers to your chicken-wrangling exploits in Flown the Coop!. It has parallels to the iconic “Chicken Chaser” title from the Fable series (it’s the default title NPCs call you in Fable: The Lost Chapters).

Serf No More

  • Killing Serfex makes you an ex-serf of the Frenzyheart. This quest is the turning point where the Frenzyheart begin to treat you with a degree of respect rather than as pure slave labor.

Outland Burrowers

  • Serfex uses the same emerge-from-the-ground mechanic as the bursters and sand worms in Hellfire Peninsula. It is a bone worm, a subtype of sand worm originally native to Draenor. His presence in Sholazar is unusual, as bone worms are otherwise only found in Outland’s Bone Wastes. Like those Outland relatives, the visual cue is rumbling earth.

Elder Harkek’s summary of my accomplishments came with an offer. “Under sands of south river there a beast that kills wasp, apes, and even wolvar. He called Serfex. You bring claw of Serfex to Rakjak and maybe he release you from slaveness.”

Freedom, then.

The southern riverbed stretched before me, the sand’s patterns speaking of something large moving below. Tracks told a story: gouges in the earth, crushed wasps, and the occasional piece of armor from less fortunate hunters. Serfex hadn’t grown large by being stupid. He’d picked a riverbed where everything that drank had to stand still to do it.

The ground trembled under my boots with no direction to it.

Then the sand went up, and Serfex came out of it. A bone worm, pale and segmented, and a maw ringed with teeth set in rows, the back rows still growing in behind the front. The claws were what Harkek wanted, and I could see why. They came off him like tools.

He struck fast, but his patterns were predictable. The beast collapsed, raising a cloud of dust. As I claimed his claw as proof, I wondered how many wolvar he’d taken before me.

Rakjak’s mood was dour when I returned. “I not ask for you, night elf. What you want?”

I held up the claw.

“You kill Serfex? I bet you follow mighty wolvar that kill Serfex and take claw.”

He took the claw anyway. “My claw now.”

Some things don’t change. But at least I wasn’t a slave anymore.

Rakjak had stopped calling Vikstone a slave, and the next job came with actual trust attached in Mischief in the Making.
