“She’s ruined… ruined! I told that captain to be careful with such a precious cargo, but would she listen to me? No! When the ship ran aground, it damaged my flying machine, the Spirit of Gnomeregan. Now, we’re left without any means to send our reports! There is a chance, though, that the Venture Company’s antics may work in our favor.
They shot down another flying machine right about where Monte parachuted into the swamp to the east. Go there and retrieve the engine. It may be our only hope.”

Vikstone's War JournalWeslex Quickwrench paced before his ruined flying machine, hands gesturing at nothing.

“She’s ruined… ruined! I told that captain to be careful with such a precious cargo, but would she listen to me? No!” The gnome’s voice pitched higher with each sentence. “When the ship ran aground, it damaged the Spirit of Gnomeregan. Now we’re left without any means to send our reports!”
The Spirit sat behind him, mechanical guts spilled across the dock. Even I could tell it wasn’t flying anywhere soon.
“There is a chance, though,” Weslex continued, brightening. “The Venture Company shot down another flying machine right about where Monte parachuted into the swamp. Go there and retrieve the engine. It may be our only hope.”
Their loss, our gain. The Venture Company’s reputation for sharing resources matched their environmental record. But we needed that engine, and the crashed machine wasn’t guarded by anything more dangerous than swamp crocolisks.
The engine came free with less effort than expected. Hauling it back through the humid jungle was the harder part.
“There… just set it down there.” Weslex’s eyes went wide. “Be careful! If you ruin this one, we’re in big trouble.”
I set it down carefully.
“Now, let’s see what I can do.”
The engine was in, and Weslex was already making a list of parts he still needed from the Venture Company’s dig site in Have a Part, Give a Part
