Lore Context
The Cult of the Damned moved fast. By activating the Waygate, you inadvertently showed them the path to the Etymidian. As Herenn taunts, you “led them to the only being that could stand up to their armies.” They seized the Omega Rune to prevent its activation, but their small garrison is no match for an armed adventurer.
The Etymidian’s awakening here sets the stage for the chain’s climax in Reclamation, where you’ll pilot it against the Scourge army at The Avalanche.

Vikstone's War JournalThe Etymidian towered in silence. In his chest was an empty slot cut to the shape of a rune, and nothing in the terrace looked likely to hold it except the place the cultists had made their own.
The Hall of Repose lay ahead.

I’d learned to recognize the cultists’ presence by now, the particular rot of mortals who’d sold themselves to the Lich King.
Two Death’s Hand Acolytes flanked a robed figure at the hall’s end. The same order I’d burned out of the basin, standing in a titan hall on the other side of the world.
“Fool! You led us to the only being that could stand up to our armies!”
The first acolyte died with my axe buried in his chest. The second managed a spell that scorched across my shoulder before I closed the distance, mace caving in his skull. Then it was just Herenn and me.
“You will never bring the Etymidian back to Northrend!”
He worked shadow, the way all of them do. I have been on the receiving end of that spell from things far better at it than him. The Omega Rune fell from his robes.
Back at the Etymidian, I set the rune into the slot and stepped away from him.
“I am needed somewhere?”
He said it the way a man asks whether it’s raining.
“Yes,” I said. “You are.”
A titan weapon was awake in Un’Goro and the war it was built for was on the wrong continent, which left one problem worth solving before anything else: Back Through the Waygate.
