Construct 8 Barricades in the Valley of Fallen Heroes.

The markers are Thassarian's own, floating violet orbs scattered across the valley, and there are more than the eight you need. Do not mistake them for the small blue objects on the ground. Raise Spell Detail to High if they are washing out. The kit works while mounted, so this is a fly-between-orbs job rather than a fight, and you only need to clear whatever is standing directly on a marker. Take the other Valley quests on the same trip.

Vikstone's Classic Expedition

Thassarian had already walked the valley and marked where his men would be shot at from the rampart above, then admitted there was no time to build anything that would actually hold. Vikstone put up eight of them and understood exactly who would be crouching behind each one.

“When our forces begin to move beyond Aldur’thar, they will be vulnerable to attack from the Ironwall Rampart and the broad glacier below. We have neither the time nor the materials to build fortifications, but we can put up some barricades to shield our men from fire and break up Scourge charges.

Take this barricade kit to the Valley of Fallen Heroes, on the west side of Aldur’thar. Locate the markers I’ve placed there and use this kit to construct your barricades there.”

Objective:
Place 8 Barricades in the Valley of Lost Hope (located southwest of Aldur'thar) by using the provided Barricade Crate near designated markers.
Travel to the Valley of Lost Hope
Head to the quest area at ~50, 40, southwest of Aldur'thar.
Look for flashing purple orbs on the ground. These indicate where you should place the barricades.
Ensure the Barricade Crate is in your inventory.

2. Place Barricades
Stand near the purple orbs and use the Barricade Crate.
The orbs are phasing, so you might hear them before seeing them.
There are more than 8 markers in the area, so you don’t need to stick to one spot if others are crowded. — **Quest Giver:** Thassarian (Alliance, aboard The Skybreaker)/Koltira Deathweaver (Horde, aboard Orgrim’s Hammer)

Walkthrough

Fly to the Valley of Fallen Heroes, on the western/southern side of Aldur’thar. The quest text says “west,” but the valley is more accurately south of the gate.
Look for flashing violet/purple orbs floating above the ground. These are the placement markers. There are more than 8 scattered across the valley, so you do not need to find every last one.
Stand near a purple orb and use the Barricade Construction Kit from your inventory. A barricade appears and you get credit. Repeat 8 times.
Important: Do not confuse the purple orbs with the small blue glowing objects on the ground (mineral nodes or other environmental items). The correct markers are the purple floating/pulsing orbs.
If the orbs are hard to see, set your Spell Detail level to High in the graphics options. This makes them more visible.
You can use the Construction Kit while mounted, in Ghost Wolf form, or in other travel forms, making this a quick fly-and-click quest.

Efficiency Tips

This quest unlocks alongside your progression through the Aldur’thar chain. Pick up Bloodspattered Banners and Blinding the Eyes in the Sky/Get the Message at the same time if available; they all take place in the Valley of Fallen Heroes.
The area has ambient Scourge mobs, but you can largely avoid them by flying between orbs. Clear only what is directly on top of a marker.

From the Ironwall Rampart. Mardagan and I were on that rampart four days ago, and he stood at the edge of it looking down at this exact ground and said we would be fighting up it again with an army behind us.

The markers were already there. Thassarian has walked the Valley of Fallen Heroes at some point without mentioning it, and gone along it deciding where men will need something to get behind.

The kit is heavy and the work is not complicated. You find his marker, you set the frame, you brace it, and you move on. The dead came at me twice while I was doing it.

Eight of them, all facing the rampart.

Thassarian nodded.

“Good. It’s not much protection, but it’s better than nothing. That gate is still the perfect choke point if the Scourge commanders know what they’re doing. We must gain control of as much of the surrounding area as possible.”

Thassarian’s next concern was everything the Scourge had already left standing in it, the banners over ground where an army had died once already in Bloodspattered Banners.
