The Raising of Sindragosa
This vision recreates one of the most iconic moments in Warcraft history.
Sindragosa, former prime consort of Malygos the Spell-Weaver, died during the War of the Ancients over 10,000 years ago when Neltharion (later Deathwing) used the Dragon Soul to betray the other dragonflights. Mortally wounded, she flew north seeking the magic of the Dragonblight to heal herself, but her strength failed and she crashed into the ice of what would become Northrend.
For ten millennia, her skeleton lay frozen in the glaciers. When the Lich King consolidated his power over Icecrown, he discovered her remains and raised her as the most powerful frost wyrm ever created. The scene you witness here is that moment: the Lich King calling Sindragosa’s spirit back from death to serve as the matriarch of the Frostbrood.
This same scene was depicted in the WotLK expansion cinematic, one of the most watched and celebrated cinematics in WoW’s history. Seeing it recreated in-game from the player’s perspective, with Matthias providing the context that the cinematic lacked, gives the moment additional emotional weight.
Matthias’s Pattern
This is the second of Matthias Lehner’s vision quests. The first (Army of the Damned) showed you Arthas slaughtering his own soldiers.
This one shows the Lich King commanding even ancient, mighty dragons to obey him. The third vision (at the Court of Bones, in a later quest) will show you the duel between Arthas and Illidan.
Each vision escalates the scope of the Lich King’s power: from infantry, to dragons, to demon hunters. Matthias’s refrain, “How is a simple mortal like you going to resist him?”, grows more pointed with each revelation.

Matthias was standing in the crater as though he had been there a while. He had been there a while. He was there yesterday, while I worked through sixteen cultists across these bones, and not one of them turned to look at him.
“He raised the biggest of them all himself. Bring me some bone dust from the whelps and I’ll show you exactly how he did it.”
The whelps came at me in twos and threes. Small things, once, hatchlings out of a brood that fell with her, however long ago that was, kept in the ice until the Scourge found a use for them. Their wings worked against air they had no need of. I broke what death had already claimed, six times over, and gathered the dust of them.
Matthias took it without ceremony. “Watch,” he said.
This one I was not inside. That is the mercy of it, if the word applies. At the army I wore the prince, and here I was only made to stand in the snow of another year and see.
Sindragosa lay whole in the glacier, preserved, the way the ice keeps things. He came to her with the blade in his hand and there was no ritual to speak of and no effort in it that I could see.
“Rise, Sindragosa! Rise and lead the Frostbrood into war!”
The glacier opened. She stood up out of ten thousand years the way a soldier stands when named, and what looked out of her afterward was blue fire and obedience.
The vision let go of me and I was standing among the dust of her children with the vials still on my belt.
“Even the mighty wyrms had to heed his call,” Matthias said. “How is a simple mortal like you going to resist him?”
Three visions in and the boy has explained everything except himself, which is the one question Vikstone has left and the reason it is finally Time for Answers.
