Lore Context
The dialogue offers a humanizing glimpse of the Skybreaker’s chain of command. Bartlett is frank about his limitations: Boltwrench is brilliant but won’t stop sharing every invention, and Bartlett doesn’t understand most of it.
His line about being “sprinkled across half of the glacier several times over” if not for Boltwrench’s work suggests the gnomish engineer is responsible for keeping the airship intact during Scourge attacks.
Bartlett refers to his own ship as “the Stormbreaker” in the same paragraph the objective calls it the Skybreaker. Blizzard never corrected it, so Classic players still read it today, and the same sentence carries a second shipped error in “his every miniscule invention.”
The quest transitions the Broken Front military storyline (Bartlett’s domain) to the engineering/science storyline (Boltwrench’s domain). From here, you’ll be working with gnomish and goblin technology to develop new weapons against the Scourge, starting with the Smuggled Solution field tests in Borrowed Technology.

The Stormbreaker. He said it in the middle of a sentence about distractions and did not hear himself do it, and I have decided that I will go to my grave without telling him.
The rest of it was better than he knew. A captain who says out loud that he does not understand his own engineer, and then sends a stranger down to help the man rather than to shut him up.
Boltwrench was elbow deep in something that sparked. He did not stop what he was doing.
“Cappy sent you in his place, did he? Very well. Roll up those sleeves… time to get to work!”
Cappy. There is a version of this ship where that gnome is thrown off the side, and this is not that ship, and I am beginning to understand why it is still flying.
Boltwrench had gotten his hands on something the goblins had not meant to share, and the only way to find out whether it worked was to carry it down to the gate and try it on the Scourge in Borrowed Technology.
