The Way to His Heart…

Quest 2 of 2 in the Swabbin' Soap Chain (Finale) Daily Quest
Both Factions • Howling Fjord • Level 71 • Kamagua
Catch Tasty Reef Fish with Anuniaq's Net and toss them to lure a Reef Bull across the strait to a Reef Cow.
Anuniaq at Kamagua [24.6, 58.9]. Fish schools spawn around [28, 75] and [34, 68] among the ice floes. Use the net from your inventory near (not inside) a school. Do not turn during the channel or it fails and the school vanishes. Gather 6-8 fish. Reef Bulls are on the Scalawag shoreline around [31, 74], Reef Cows are across the strait around [30, 71]. Throw fish at max range to lead the bull to a cow. Important: Pet classes, set pets to passive before throwing fish. The throw counts as an attack and pets on defensive will kill the bull. 500 Kalu'ak rep per day.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
Vikstone had killed vrykul, faced revenants, and slain a mad pirate captain. Now he was matchmaking sea lions because someone had killed their alpha bull for soap. Anuniaq's parting words landed quietly: "Whatever you might have done in the past, know that you have helped with Kamagua's future."

“The Northsea Pirates slaughtered the isles’ alpha sea lion bull, Big Roy. They made soap from him to clean the decks of their ships!

<Anuniaq sighs.>

Now the sea lions won’t mate. Help me to repopulate their numbers. The reef bulls can be found at the Twin Shores to the southeast. They crave the tasty reef fish that can be found on the east and west sides of the isles. Take this net and gather enough fish, at least a dozen — maybe more, to lure a bull across the strait to a reef cow.”

Walkthrough

Quest Giver: Anuniaq — Kamagua, Howling Fjord [24.6, 58.9]

Objective: Toss Tasty Reef Fish at a Reef Bull to lead it to a Reef Cow.

Quick Facts

  • Level: 71 (Daily, Repeatable)
  • Faction: Both (Alliance & Horde)
  • Prerequisite: Swabbin’ Soap must be completed first
  • Provided Item: Anuniaq’s Net (for catching fish from schools)

Walkthrough

Step 1: Gather Tasty Reef Fish

  • Swim out to the waters between Scalawag Point and the Isle of Spears. Fish schools spawn around [28, 75] and [34, 68], scattered among the ice floes, not along the shoreline.
  • Use Anuniaq’s Net on the School of Tasty Reef Fish. These are NOT clickable fishing nodes. You must use the net from your inventory/action bar while standing near (but slightly outside) the school.
  • Each successful net cast yields roughly 3-5 fish. Do not turn during the channel, or it will fail, and the school vanishes with no fish.
  • Collect 6-8 fish. The quest text says “at least a dozen” but 6-8 is plenty when thrown at maximum range. Having extras is insurance.
  • Sharks: Netting a school may occasionally spawn a Great Reef Shark instead of yielding fish. Sharks also drop Tasty Reef Fish when killed, so they’re not a total loss.
  • The schools do NOT appear with the Find Fish tracking ability and are hard to spot from a flying mount. They’re easiest to see while swimming just below the water’s surface. Look for a faint sparkle with small red fish swimming in a shallow cluster.

Step 2: Lure the Reef Bull to a Reef Cow

  • Reef Bulls sit along the Scalawag Point shoreline around [31-32, 74].
  • Reef Cows are on the Isle of Spears shoreline directly across the strait, around [30-31, 70-72].
  • Put the Tasty Reef Fish on your action bar. Target a Reef Bull and throw a fish from maximum range (~20 yards). The bull will move toward your position and stop. Back up toward the cow side and throw another. Repeat until the bull reaches a cow.
  • When the bull reaches a cow, hearts appear over both and you receive quest credit.
  • Leftover fish are automatically deleted when you turn in the quest. You cannot stockpile for tomorrow.

Step 3: Return to Anuniaq

  • Turn in at Kamagua [24.6, 58.9].

Efficiency Tips

  • The 1-fish kite method: Multiple players report aggroing a Reef Bull (just punch it unarmed) and kiting it across the strait to the cow side, then throwing a single fish to trigger the match. This cuts fish gathering to almost nothing. Caution: Bulls may not chase in all versions — if this doesn’t work, use the standard fish-toss method.
  • Fastest daily route: Set your hearthstone to Kamagua. Do this daily first, then fly to Moa’ki Harbor (Dragonblight) for Planning for the Future, then fly to Unu’pe (Borean Tundra) for Preparing for the Worst. All three Kalu’ak dailies give 500 reputation each = 1,500 per day.
  • Hunters and Warlocks: Keep your pet on passive before throwing fish. Throwing the fish counts as an attack action; pets set to defensive will aggro and kill the bull. You don’t need to dismiss; just switch to passive voice.
  • Death Knights: Path of Frost lets you walk across the water between schools and between bull/cow, saving significant swimming time.
  • Avoid the rock at [31.3, 71.8] — bulls can get stuck on it mid-path.
  • Group tip: The Attracted Reef Bull is tagged to whoever threw the first fish. Only that player gets quest credit, regardless of who throws subsequent fish.

Lore Context

  • Anuniaq’s quest text directly calls out what you did in Swabbin’ Soap: “The Northsea Pirates slaughtered the isles’ alpha sea lion bull. They made soap from him to clean the decks of their ships!” The player IS those pirates. And Anuniaq seems to know — his completion text says: “Whatever you might have done in the past, know that you have helped with Kamagua’s future!”
  • This quest is one of WotLK’s best examples of quest consequences. You killed Big Roy for soap, disrupted the local ecosystem, and now spend weeks atoning by manually matchmaking the leaderless sea lions. The tuskarr’s gentle disappointment is more effective than any lecture.

Easter Egg

  • The quest name references the proverb “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. You’re luring a bull to love using food.

Anuniaq found me near the docks.

Vikstone Portrait Act 1
Illustrated by Christian DiBari and Simon Gough.

“The Northsea Pirates slaughtered the isles’ alpha sea lion bull, Big Roy. They made soap from him to clean the decks of their ships!”

He sighed heavily.

I kept my face still. The blubber I had delivered to Scuttle Frostprow was still probably drying on the deck.

“Now the sea lions won’t mate. Help me to repopulate their numbers.”

The tuskarr pressed a fishing net into my hands.

“The reef bulls can be found at the Twin Shores to the southeast. They crave the tasty reef fish that can be found on the east and west sides of the isles. Take this net and gather enough fish, at least a dozen, maybe more, to lure a bull across the strait to a reef cow.”

I had killed vrykul, faced revenants, and slain a mad pirate captain. Now I was playing matchmaker for sea lions.

The fishing was simple enough. The luring was stranger. Toss a fish, watch the bull lumber forward. Toss another, lead him across the strait to where the cows waited.

When bull met cow, something shifted, and hearts, almost visible in the air between them.

Anuniaq beamed when I returned. “This is good news! Now more bulls will swim across the strait to mate with the cows. Soon there will be plenty of new reef pups on the isles.” He clasped my hand. “Thank you, night elf. Whatever you might have done in the past, know that you have helped with Kamagua’s future!”

I wondered if he knew. I decided it didn’t matter. The debt was paid, one way or another.

South of Fort Wildervar the Frozen Glade had gone quiet in a way the explorers did not like, because something had changed among The Enigmatic Frost Nymphs and nobody could say what.
