Shoveltusk Soup Again?

Quest Giver: Chef Kettleblack — Westguard Inn kitchen, Westguard Keep, Howling Fjord

Objective: Collect 6 Shoveltusk Meat and return them to Chef Kettleblack.

Walkthrough

• Head east from Westguard Keep. Shoveltusks graze in herds on the grassy plains around [35, 40], just outside the eastern gate.
• Kill any shoveltusk type for the meat. Shoveltusk (level 68, non-aggressive), Shoveltusk Calves, and Shoveltusk Stags (aggressive) all drop the meat. The quest text warns that stags are “mean” for a reason.
• Drop rate is roughly 50%, so expect to kill around 12 shoveltusks to get your 6 meat.
• Shoveltusks have a Head Butt ability that confuses you for 3 seconds. This can be annoying if you pull multiple stags, but it’s a brief confuse, not a prolonged lockdown. Just avoid pulling big groups and you’ll be fine.
• Return to Chef Kettleblack in the inn kitchen at Westguard Keep, not the keep building itself. If your quest tracker arrow is leading you to the wrong spot, look for the inn.

Efficiency Tips

• Grab One Size Does Not Fit All from Cannoneer Ely before heading out. The cannonballs are scattered in the same area to the south and east.
• If you’re heading to the Explorer’s League Outpost later, pick this quest up first. We Have the Technology at the outpost requires Pristine Shoveltusk Hides, which drop from the same calves.

Note on Rewards

You receive a stack of Shoveltusk Soup, not the recipe. The Recipe: Shoveltusk Soup was a quest reward during the WotLK beta but was removed before launch. This is not a bug. The recipe is also not required for any cooking achievement.
