There Exists No Honor Among Birds

Quest Giver: Hidalgo the Master Falconer at Explorers’ League Outpost

Objective: Use your Trained Rock Falcon to capture 8 Fjord Hawk Eggs from nests on the cliff walls near the Stonewall Lift.

Walkthrough

1. Accept quest from Hidalgo (he gives you a new falcon cage; no grubs required).
2. Head east to the Vrykul Hawk Roost at [76.7, 67.7], near the Stonewall Lift.
3. Do NOT take the lift down. The roost is at the top, to the right of the lift entrance.
4. Clear any nearby Shoveltusk Stags before using the falcon.
5. Use the Trained Rock Falcon cage to take control of your falcon.
6. Fly down and along the cliff walls to find nests with eggs.
7. Land near eggs and use Scavenge (ability 1) to collect them.
8. Avoid or escape from Matriarch Fjord Hawks.
9. Collect 8 eggs total.
10. Press Cancel to return to your character.
11. Return to Hidalgo.

Falcon Abilities

When you take control of the falcon, your action bar changes to three abilities:

• Scavenge (Key 1): Steal eggs from nests. Must be very close to the egg to use.
• Soar (Key 2): 300% speed boost for 4 seconds. 20-second cooldown. Use for quick travel or escaping danger.
• Escape (Key 3): Disorients and stuns a hostile matriarch for 6 seconds. Hit this, then Soar away.

Egg Locations

Eggs are located in nests on ledges below the cliffs, NOT in trees as you might expect. From the roost:

1. Fly down over the cliff edge.
2. Look along the cliff walls and ledges.
3. Eggs sparkle to help you spot them.
4. Land on a ledge, get close to the egg, and use Scavenge.

Hazards

Matriarch Fjord Hawks

• Large hostile hawks patrol near the nests.
• If spotted, they’ll attack your falcon.
• Use Escape to stun them, then Soar away.
• If your falcon dies, just use the cage again. Progress is saved.

Shoveltusk Stags

• These aggressive mobs roam near the roost.
• They can attack YOUR CHARACTER while you’re controlling the falcon.
• If your character takes damage, you may be pulled out of falcon mode.
• Clear stags BEFORE using the falcon, or position on top of the roost structure.

Tips

• No Grubs Needed: Unlike previous quests, this falcon doesn’t require feeding. Just use the cage directly.
• Time Limit: The channeling bar is actually a timer showing how long you can fly. It’s generous (around 5 minutes), but don’t dawdle.
• Safe Positioning: Position your character on top of the roost structure or at the back side to minimize stag aggro.
• Night Elves: You can Shadowmeld while controlling the falcon to protect your character from stags.
• Cancel Saves Progress: If you hit Cancel at any time, eggs you’ve collected remain in your inventory. You can resummon and continue.
• Addon Issues: If you only see two buttons (“Hawk Hunting” and “Cancel”), your action bar addon may be hiding the abilities. Either disable the addon (Bongos, Dominos, etc.) or just press 1, 2, 3 directly.
• Flying Mount Alternative: If you have Cold Weather Flying, you can fly to matriarchs and kill them yourself, making egg collection much easier.

Troubleshooting

• Only seeing 2 buttons? Look at your bottom action bar, not the top one. The three abilities may be on a different bar. Or try pressing 1/2/3 directly.
• Scavenge not working? You must be very close to the egg. Land on the ledge and approach it.
• Wrong cage? Make sure you’re using the NEW cage from this quest, not old cages from earlier in the chain.
• Getting disconnected? Using Soar can occasionally trigger anti-hack protections. If disconnected, log back in and continue.

Story Context

Hidalgo sends you on your graduation mission:

“You are most definitely ready for the next step in falconry. Take your trained falcon east of here, to the vrykul hawk roost near the Stonewall Lift. From the roost you will send out your falcon to steal the eggs of the hawks. Their nests will be located in remote areas of the cliff walls surrounding the roost.”

This is the culmination of your falconry training. You’ve learned to feed your falcon, hunt easy prey, hunt difficult prey, and now you’re taking direct control to perform reconnaissance and theft missions. The bond between you and your falcon is so strong that you can see through its eyes.

Hidalgo celebrates your success: “Bravo! Bravo! The bond of kinship between you and your falcon is strong! Perhaps you can run some reconnaissance missions against the vrykul in the not-too-distant future?”

Bonus: Sightseeing

After completing the quest, you can use the falcon to explore the surrounding area. The flight range is surprisingly large, reaching almost to Utgarde Keep. You can scout Valgarde, Nifflevar, the eastern coast, and even fly through the Storm Giant (who ignores birds). A nice reward for completing the chain.

Easter Egg: Honor Among Thieves

The quest title plays on the proverb “honor among thieves,” which suggests that even criminals follow certain codes of conduct. Hidalgo’s mission proves there’s no such honor among birds.

This concludes the entire falconry questline:

Sadly, you don’t get to keep the falcon as a pet.
