“I was leading a caravan here from Valgarde that was attacked by Dragonflayers. I was the only survivor of that ambush. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it back here with the cargo of fjord turkeys. This is the perfect opportunity for you to get your feet wet with your rock falcon.
<Hidalgo hands you a cage.>
Take this falcon cage and head west down the road leading out of this camp. Use the falcon to capture the loose turkeys and return here when you’ve gathered enough. Remember to feed the falcon!”
-Hidalgo the Master Falconer

Quest Giver: Hidalgo the Master Falconer at Explorers’ League Outpost
Objective: Use the Trained Rock Falcon to recover 5 Fjord Turkeys.
Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Critical: Feeding Your Falcon
Hidalgo warns you repeatedly: “Remember to feed the falcon!”
Here’s how it works:
You don’t need to manually feed the falcon; just have grubs in your bags and the falcon handles the rest.
Hazards: Dragonflayer Ambushers
About 50% of the time you capture a turkey, a Dragonflayer Ambusher (level 70) will spawn and attack you. These vrykul were hiding near the caravan wreckage, waiting to ambush anyone who came to investigate.
The ambushers aren’t difficult to kill, but be ready for combat. If you want to avoid the fight, move away quickly after each capture.
Tips
Achievement Opportunity: Friend or Fowl?
The crossroads is the best location in the game for the Friend or Fowl? achievement, which requires killing 15 turkeys within 3 minutes.
Why this spot works:
Warning: Upon completing the achievement, all nearby turkeys will turn hostile and swarm you. This is a scripted event meant to be funny. You won’t die, but you’ll take a beating from angry poultry. Relogging resets them to neutral.

Story Context
Hidalgo reveals his backstory:
“I was leading a caravan here from Valgarde that was attacked by Dragonflayers. I was the only survivor of that ambush. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it back here with the cargo of fjord turkeys.”
The Dragonflayer vrykul set up a patient ambush, killing the entire caravan escort and then waiting to see if anyone would return. The turkeys escaped during the chaos and are now wandering loose. Your falcon training doubles as a recovery mission.
Upon completion, Hidalgo acknowledges the threat: “Clever fiends. And patient too! We need to stop underestimating our enemy. Those vrykul are deadly hunters!”
Fun Fact: Cooked on Death
If a turkey dies (whether from your falcon eating it, your pet attacking it, or you killing it for the achievement), it immediately transforms into a cooked turkey model. Blizzard’s artists couldn’t resist the visual gag.

Vikstone's War Journal
“I was leading a caravan here from Valgarde that was attacked by Dragonflayers. I was the only survivor of that ambush.” Hidalgo paused. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it back here with the cargo of fjord turkeys. This is the perfect opportunity for you to get your feet wet with your rock falcon.”
Turkeys. The man lost his entire escort to vrykul ambushers, and we were discussing turkeys.
“Take this falcon cage and head west down the road. Use the falcon to capture the loose turkeys and return here when you’ve gathered enough.” He held up a finger. “Remember to feed the falcon! Your falcon must be constantly fed or else it will eat the prey you’re sending it to kill.”
The road west showed signs of the attack. I found scattered crates and dark stains on the stones. The turkeys wandered as if nothing had happened.
The falcon worked beautifully. I’d release her, she’d strike, and I’d offer a grub before sending her after the next. Five turkeys recovered. Twice, Dragonflayer Ambushers emerged from the rocks, apparently still watching the site. They died surprised.
“Clever fiends,” Hidalgo said when I returned. “And patient too! We need to stop underestimating our enemy. Those vrykul are deadly hunters.”
She could take turkeys, and Hidalgo had something harder in mind, since the fjord hawks were bigger and meaner and did not care for competition, which makes the next lesson Falcon Versus Hawk.
