Break the Blockade

Daily Quest
Alliance • Howling Fjord • Level 71 • Shattered Straits
Ride the zeppelin over the Shattered Straits and bomb 25 Blockade Pirates and 10 cannons.
The zeppelin docks near Harrowmeiser at (28, 42) west of Petrov. It stays docked ~2 minutes, full round trip ~6 minutes. Keybind the bombs. Clicking the icon then clicking the ground is too slow while moving. The zeppelin passes 5 pirate ships. Ships 1-2 pass on the right (stand left), Ship 3 goes overhead (stand front), Ships 4-5 pass on the left (stand right). Best strategy: stand at the very front facing BACKWARD so you can throw through the zeppelin in both directions. Solo one-pass completion is tight. Most players need 1-2 passes. Grouping shares kill credit. With Cold Weather Flying you can fly to the ships directly and bomb or fight from the deck. Disable "Click to Move" before boarding or you'll walk off the edge.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
Harrowmeiser's zeppelin puttered over the pirate positions with all the urgency of a morning stroll. The pirates pointed and laughed. They stopped laughing when the first cluster bomb hit. Petrov asked if Vikstone could come back tomorrow when they'd made more bombs. The blockade was broken. For now.

“All of our ships are sunk! We need your help to break the pirate blockade below in the Shattered Straits! Take these cluster bombs and hitch a ride on the zeppelin that Harrowmeiser has ‘loaned’ to us. He’ll fly you over the decks of those pirate scoundrels, and you make sure to give it to them good!

If you can’t bomb them to smithereens, I’m afraid we’ll never be able to break the blockade.”

-Bombardier Petrov

Objective

LEVEL

71

Requires level

68

Take Petrov’s Cluster Bombs and drop them on enough pirates to kill or destroy 25 Blockade Pirates and 10 Blockade Cannons. Once you’ve accomplished that, return to Bombardier Petrov at Westguard Keep.

Provided item:

  • Petrov’s Cluster Bombs

Location:
Zeppelin Dock: Located right behind and slightly to the left of the quest giver in Valgarde, Howling Fjord.
Ships in the Blockade: Positioned around the waters near the Valgarde Harbor.

Tips for Completion:
Using the Zeppelin:
Board the zeppelin docked near the quest giver. If it's not present, it is out on its route—wait a minute or two for it to return.
The zeppelin will fly over the blockade, giving you opportunities to throw bombs at pirates and cannons on the ships below.
Aim directly at the cannons for one-shot destruction. Aiming between cannons does less damage and is inefficient.
Optimizing Bomb Throws:
Positioning on the Zeppelin:
Left side: Target the first two ships.
Front: Target the third ship.
Right side: Target the final two ships.
Standing at the front of the zeppelin and facing backward allows you to throw bombs both forward and backward for maximum coverage.
The zeppelin docks near Harrowmeiser at (28, 42) west of Petrov.

Quest Giver: Bombardier Petrov — Westguard Keep, Howling Fjord

Objective: Use Petrov’s Cluster Bombs from the zeppelin to destroy 25 Blockade Pirates and 10 Blockade Cannons in the Shattered Straits, then return to Bombardier Petrov.

Quick Facts

  • Level: 71
  • Type: Daily quest (repeatable)
  • Location: Shattered Straits, off the coast of Westguard Keep

Walkthrough

Boarding the Zeppelin

  • The zeppelin is docked near Harrowmeiser at approximately [28, 42], just west of Bombardier Petrov. If it’s not there, it’s on its route. The zeppelin stays docked for about 2 minutes between trips; the full round trip takes roughly 6 minutes.
  • Put Petrov’s Cluster Bombs on a keybind. Clicking the icon and then clicking the ground target is slow. A keybind lets you press and click much faster, which matters when the zeppelin is moving.

Bombing the Ships

  • The zeppelin passes 5 pirate ships. The route goes:
    • Ships 1-2: Zeppelin passes to their right. Stand on the left side of the zeppelin (the side opposite where you boarded).
    • Ship 3: Zeppelin flies directly overhead. Stand at the front.
    • Ships 4-5: Zeppelin passes to their left. Stand on the right side.
  • Best solo strategy: Stand at the very front of the zeppelin and face backward. This lets you throw bombs both forward and behind you (through the zeppelin), covering ships on both sides without repositioning. If you face forward instead, the zeppelin body blocks your backward throws.
  • Aim directly at cannons and pirate clusters. The bombs have an AoE splash, so dropping them between groups of pirates is effective.
  • Completing the quest in a single pass solo is possible but tight. Most solo players need 1-2 passes. Grouping with other players on the zeppelin shares kill credit and makes a one-pass finish easy.

If You Don’t Finish in One Pass

  • You can ride the zeppelin around again (another ~6 minutes).
  • With Cold Weather Flying, you can fly directly to the ships. Landing on a ship’s mast spar or the bow keeps you out of melee range, and there are reports the bombs still work from ships and nearby icebergs despite the tooltip saying “only while aboard the zeppelin.” You can also kill pirates and destroy cannons manually with your own abilities for quest credit.
  • Without flying, you can jump off the zeppelin near a ship, land in the water (no fall damage), and engage from the water or swim to the ship.

Efficiency Tips

  • Disable “Click to Move” in your settings before boarding. Some have accidentally walked off the zeppelin by click-targeting.
  • If you finish the quest mid-trip and have a flying mount, just jump off and fly back to Petrov instead of riding out the rest of the route.
  • Group up if others are on the zeppelin. There’s no downside, and it nearly guarantees a one-pass completion.
  • Fun detail: there’s a dancing pirate on top of the mast on the last ship.

“All of our ships are sunk!” Bombardier Petrov said. “We need your help to break the pirate blockade below in the Shattered Straits!”

Vikstone Portrait Act 1
Illustrated by Christian DiBari and Simon Gough.

He pressed a satchel of cluster bombs into my hands.

“Take these and hitch a ride on the zeppelin that Harrowmeiser has ‘loaned’ to us.” The way he said ‘loaned’ suggested negotiations had been brief and possibly involved threats. “He’ll fly you over the decks of those pirate scoundrels, and you make sure to give it to them good! If you can’t bomb them to smithereens, I’m afraid we’ll never be able to break the blockade.”

The Shattered Straits contained Alliance wreckage that wasted the waters below, masts visible from the waves like grave markers. The Northsea pirates had kept busy and made themselves comfortable among the ruins, their cannons pointed at any approach.

Harrowmeiser’s zeppelin was a rickety thing, held together by optimism and possibly spite. It puttered over the pirate positions. Below, pirates pointed and shouted. Some even laughed.

They stopped laughing when the first cluster bomb hit.

Twenty-five pirates met ten cannons. The explosions bloomed across the decks, one after another. From above, it was almost peaceful. Just fire and screaming, distant enough to seem abstract.

“You’ve shown those rotten Northsea pirates a thing or two!” Petrov said. “You’ve got the stuff, that’s for sure! You think maybe you could come back again tomorrow when we’ve made more cluster bombs?”

The Ember Clutch was still alight, where an ancient who had watched the whole thing knew that killing drakes and whelps had been treating symptoms and that the Root Causes walked on two legs and answered to Skeld Drakeson.
