“Now that you’ve captured the flame-imbued talismans and weakened Voldrune’s defenses, we can strike at its leader, Thane Torvald Eriksson. The thane’s favorite mount is an unruly proto-drake he calls Flamebringer. It is kept bound in chains in the western part of Voldrune, but with the talismans, you should be able to control it long enough to use it against the thane.
Once you have Flamebringer under your control, search the tops of the towers of Voldrune for the thane and show him no mercy.”

Lore Context
Thane Torvald Eriksson leads the Dragonflayer vrykul at Voldrune. The Dragonflayer clan is the same faction players encounter throughout Howling Fjord (Utgarde Keep, Wyrmskull Village), and their presence in Grizzly Hills shows the clan’s territorial reach across southern Northrend. Using their own proto-drake against their leader is a satisfying payoff to the three-quest chain.
Voldrune’s name may contain a nod to Old Norse; “Vold” is Danish for “violence” and “rune” references the Viking runic alphabet.

Vikstone's War JournalFlamebringer waited in chains on Voldrune’s western edge. The thane’s personal mount, Drake had called it. An unruly proto-drake, kept bound because even its master couldn’t fully control it.

I approached with the talismans held high. The beast’s eyes tracked me. Then the magic took hold, and something shifted in its gaze. It was recognition of a new leash, not quite obedience.
The chains fell away.
Flying a proto-drake is nothing like riding a hippogryph. There’s no grace in it, only raw power and the sense that the creature beneath you would happily eat you if the magic slipped. Flamebringer answered my commands, banking hard toward the towers where Thane Torvald Eriksson stood.
The thane’s face went from confusion to understanding to rage in the space of a heartbeat.
Fire poured from Flamebringer’s jaws. The thane’s volleys answered, arrows of light that tore through the air, but we circled too fast, struck too often. When Eriksson finally fell from his tower, the proto-drake’s roar shook the village.
Drake nodded when I returned. “Good work. I doubt any of the woodsmen would’ve wanted to take a crack at the proto-drake, but we couldn’t afford to let the Dragonflayers build a base of power in Grizzly Hills.” He paused. “If only the Horde was so easily dealt with…”
Voldrune’s thane fell from his own tower, killed by his own mount. But something far older waits in the forests near Vordrassil Pass, and the druids outside Amberpine Lodge have been trying to get Vikstone’s attention in The Failed World Tree.
