Secrets of the Flamebinders

Quest 2 of 3 in the Voldrune Chain
Alliance • Grizzly Hills • Level 74 • Voldrune
Collect 3 Flame-Imbued Talismans from Dragonflayer Flamebinders at Voldrune [28, 74].
Flamebinders are casters, less common than the Huscarls. Close distance quickly or interrupt their fire spells. Prioritize them when you spot them and fill Huscarl kills between spawns. Grab Thinning the Ranks from the same quest giver to complete both in one trip. Completing both unlocks the proto-drake vehicle quest The Thane of Voldrune.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
The flamebinders wore their status openly: robes marked with dragon sigils, the glow of enchantment around their hands. The talismans they carried only cared about the command to come.

“Even as we attempt to fight off the Horde, the Dragonflayer tribe musters in their village of Voldrune, near the coast to the south. The most powerful warriors in the village are granted flame-imbued talismans that give them the ability to control powerful, savage proto-drakes. If we can gain control of one of these drakes, perhaps we can use it to neutralize the threat posed by Voldrune.

The Dragonflayer flamebinders create the talismans and imbue them with power. Kill them and take the talismans.”

Walkthrough

Quest Giver: Woodsman Drake — Amberpine Lodge, Grizzly Hills [31, 59]

Objective: Bring 3 Flame-Imbued Talismans to Woodsman Drake at Amberpine Lodge.

Quick Facts

  • Chain Position: 2 of 3 in the Voldrune chain (Thinning the Ranks + Secrets of the Flamebinders → The Thane of Voldrune)
  • Faction: Alliance
  • Pairs With: Thinning the Ranks (same area, same quest giver)

Walkthrough

  • Pick up both this quest and Thinning the Ranks from Woodsman Drake outside the inn at Amberpine Lodge. Both send you to the same destination.
  • Ride south to Voldrune at approximately [28, 74]. This is the Dragonflayer vrykul village near the southern coast.
  • Kill Dragonflayer Flamebinders until you’ve looted 3 Flame-Imbued Talismans. Flamebinders are caster mobs, so close the distance quickly or interrupt their fire-based spells.
  • While killing Flamebinders, also work on clearing the 12 Dragonflayer Huscarls needed for Thinning the Ranks.
  • Return to Woodsman Drake at Amberpine Lodge.

Efficiency Tips

  • Flamebinders are less common than Huscarls in Voldrune, so prioritize killing them when you spot them and fill in Huscarl kills between spawns.
  • Completing both this quest and Thinning the Ranks unlocks The Thane of Voldrune, where you use the talismans to commandeer Thane Torvald Eriksson‘s proto-drake Flamebringer and turn it against him. Drake’s turn-in line says it all: “I can’t wait to see the look on the thane’s face when he realizes you’ve commandeered his proto-drake.”

Lore Context

The Dragonflayer’s most powerful warriors use these flame-imbued talismans to control savage proto-drakes. By stealing the talismans, you’re not just weakening Voldrune’s defenses but specifically gaining the tool needed to hijack the thane’s own mount.

The Horde equivalent of this quest is The Flamebinders’ Secrets, given by Sergeant Nazgrim at Conquest Hold, with identical objectives.

Drake had a second task alongside the culling. “The most powerful warriors in the village are granted flame-imbued talismans that give them the ability to control powerful, savage proto-drakes. If we can gain control of one of these drakes, perhaps we can use it to neutralize the threat posed by Voldrune.”

Turn their own weapon against them.

The flamebinders weren’t hard to find. They wore their status openly: robes marked with dragon sigils, the glow of enchantment around their hands. They stood apart from the huscarls, channeling power into the talismans that bound the proto-drakes to vrykul will.

When I came for them, they died like the sorcerers they were.

The talismans carried strange magic, vrykul magic, but the power inside them cared only about the command to come.

Drake grinned when I returned. “With the talismans in hand, the drake will have no choice but to obey you.” He grinned. “I can’t wait to see the look on the thane’s face when he realizes you’ve commandeered his proto-drake.”

Three talismans, one proto-drake, and a thane who doesn’t know what’s coming. Flamebringer is waiting in The Thane of Voldrune.
