Seared Scourge

Objective: Use Mack’s Dark Grog to burn 20 Famished Scourge Trolls at the base of the stairs leading to Drak’Tharon Keep.

Location

The Famished Scourge Trolls are found in the courtyards flanking the grand staircase leading up to Drak’Tharon Keep, roughly [17, 28-30]. They cluster in groups on the SIDES of the staircase, not on the stairs themselves.

Critical Mechanic: Target the Right Trolls

There are two types of trolls in this area, and only one counts:

• ✅ Famished Scourge Trolls — Shambling undead trolls milling around in the courtyards beside the staircase. These are your targets.
• ❌ Horrified Scourge Trolls — Living trolls fleeing down the staircase from the keep. These will NOT burn and do not count. Don’t waste charges on them.

The quest text says “corpshes,” and the Famished trolls are the undead ones standing around in groups, not the ones running away.

How the Grog Works

• Mack’s Dark Grog has 15 charges and a 15-second cooldown between throws.
• The grog creates a burning patch on the ground. Any Famished Scourge Troll that walks through the fire also catches fire and counts toward the objective.
• Minimum range: You cannot throw the grog at your feet. There is a significant minimum distance requirement. If you get the “too close” error, back up.
• Trolls must NOT be in combat with you. They need to be walking through the fire voluntarily, not chasing you.
• Do not kill them. Dead trolls can’t be burned. If you accidentally aggro and kill Famished trolls, they give no XP and no loot. Their only purpose is to be grog targets.
• The projectile has noticeable travel time, especially at longer range. Aim where the trolls will be, not where they are.

Best Method: Elevated Position (Any Class)

The safest and most consistent approach is to throw from above:

1. With flying mount: Land on the stone pillar/ledge at approximately [19.7, 28.2] or [16, 28]. You’ll have a clear view of the troll courtyards below with no risk of aggro.
2. Without flying mount: Run up the Drak’Tharon staircase, turn around, drop onto the stair railing, then navigate to the ledge/wall overlooking the courtyard. Takes some platforming but gets you to the same elevated position.
3. From either spot, lob grog into the densest troll clusters below. You’ll typically burn 2-4 trolls per throw. Wait for the cooldown and for trolls to regroup, then throw again.
4. With 15 charges and 2-4 kills per throw, you should complete the 20-kill objective with charges to spare.

Alternative method: Stand at [20, 28] at ground level. This is far enough from the troll clusters to avoid aggro while being within throwing range. Face northwest and lob into the courtyard.

If You Run Out of Charges

Return to Mack Fearsen at Granite Springs. Trash the empty grog from your bags first, then talk to him for a full replacement. He’ll give you a new one with 15 charges.

Troubleshooting

• “I’m throwing grog but nothing happens”: You’re probably hitting Horrified Scourge Trolls (the runners) instead of Famished ones (the shamblers in the courtyard). Or the trolls are in combat with you.
• Elite trolls: Large elite mobs patrol the area. Don’t engage them. They’re not quest targets, and they hit hard. The elevated position keeps you safe from them.
• Other players: If another player’s grog fire is burning when you throw yours, the trolls that burn in their fire may not count for you. Wait for the area to reset.

Lore Context

Mack explains the practical urgency: the Scourge-infected trolls at the base of Drak’Tharon Keep need to be thinned out before the living can get inside. “Only thing worshe than havin’ to kill a troll is havin’ ta kill a troll twice.” His dad’s wisdom, delivered through a haze of alcohol.

The Famished Scourge Trolls are former Drakkari defenders who’ve been killed and raised by the Scourge. They’re now mindless undead, driven by hunger (hence “Famished”). The Horrified trolls running down the stairs are the survivors, still living, fleeing the keep in terror.

This area is the exterior approach to Drak’Tharon Keep, the same dungeon where the Drakuru chain climaxes. Burning these Scourge trolls is the narrative setup for being able to enter the keep for Cleansing Drak’Tharon.
