“So be it. If the giants will not come to our aid, perhaps we can make use of these worms. There are sure to be some spawn with their brood mother in the cavern below. Lore Context
Zort is a goblin “diplomat” from Nozzlerust Post who was sent to convince the frost giants of the Crystal Vice to ally against the jormungar.
When Ko’char the Unbreakable refused, Zort pivoted to Plan B: enslaving the worms instead. As he puts it: “Where diplomacy fails, enslaving is a perfectly viable alternative.”
This quest leads into Really Big Worm, a 3-player group quest where Ko’char sends you to kill the jormungar brood mother Rattlebore deep inside the cavern.
Easter Egg
Zort and his brother Narf (at Nozzlerust Post) are both named after catchphrases of Pinky from the animated series Pinky and the Brain (1995). Pinky’s signature exclamations include “Narf!”, “Zort!”, and “Poit!” The pair being scheming goblins fits the show’s theme of harebrained plots for world domination.

Vikstone's War Journal“So be it.” Zort’s disappointment had curdled into something sharper. “If the giants will not come to our aid, perhaps we can make use of these worms.”
He shoved a stack of sturdy crates into my arms.

“There are sure to be some spawn with their brood mother in the cavern below. Take this box and capture three of their spawn and bring them to me.” Zort was already calculating profit margins. His fingers twitched toward his coinpurse. “Where diplomacy fails, enslaving is a perfectly viable alternative.”
The Ice Heart Cavern went deep and the spawn were smaller than the feeders, writhing in clusters near the back of the cave. Getting close enough to box them meant clearing the adults first. My axe did the work, and then the crates did theirs. Three spawn, thrashing against the wooden slats, secured and hauled back to the surface.
Zort was pacing when I returned, glancing nervously at Ko’char’s distant silhouette.
“You’ve returned! Do you have the beasts?” He grabbed the crates eagerly. “I need to get out of here… I’m pretty sure Ko’char tried to step on me a few minutes ago.”
He examined the spawn with satisfaction.
“These will do nicely. Perhaps after I grow these beasts to full size, I will bring them back and introduce them to the giants personally.” His voice dripped with spite. “Bunch of useless rocks if you ask me.”
When the alliance fails, breed an army of acid-spitting worms for revenge.
Zort has his specimens and Ko’char has had enough, because the brood mother is down in the depths of Ice Heart Cavern and he wants her dead, which is a Really Big Worm to ask anybody to handle.
