“They’re drawing power from the bones of my dead brothers…
I have no love for the cult, but I’m baffled by their audacity. There will be no mercy shown for them… not that I ever would have anyway. Ensure that they have no place to flee when the slaughter starts. Place a destructive ward at the end of the path leading out of the shrine… where the road starts to give way to snow.
Defend it until it is fully charged.”

Lore Context
Serinar reveals the Cult of the Damned is drawing power from the bones of dead black dragons in the shrine. The Destructive Ward is intended to block the cult’s escape route, ensuring none survive Serinar’s planned counterattack.
The black dragonflight’s willingness to use a ward that indiscriminately annihilates everything in its path reflects their characteristic brutality, even when fighting for an ostensibly defensive cause.

“They’re drawing power from the bones of my dead brothers,” Serinar said, “I have no love for the cult, but I’m baffled by their audacity. There will be no mercy shown for them… not that I ever would have anyway.”
He gave me a Draconic ward.
“Ensure that they have no place to flee when the slaughter starts. Place this ward at the end of the path leading out of the shrine, where the road starts to give way to snow. Defend it until it is fully charged.”
The shrine’s edge marked a stark boundary: volcanic black giving way to Northrend’s endless white. I drove the ward into the ground and felt its energy begin to build, reaching toward critical mass.
The cultists came quickly. They understood what was happening and the first wave rushed alone, desperate to destroy it before the trap was set. My mace met him halfway.
More followed. Two at once, then three, Burning Depths fanatics throwing themselves at the ward. The ward’s glow intensified with each passing moment, and I held the line while it charged. The final wave broke against me just as the ward blazed to life. Whatever fled this direction now would find no escape.
“Excellent,” Serinar said, receiving my report. “When they begin to flee in fear, the ward shall be there to wish them a fond farewell.”
The exit was sealed and the trap was set with the cultists inside and nowhere for them to go, which leaves somebody to walk in and give them a reason to try, since there is No One to Save You down there.
