Lore Context
Serinar’s quest text: “We will spare no one. Outside, lowly necrolytes and their skeletal servants shame my land with their presence. Slaughter them all.”
His completion dialogue is equally on-brand: “Did they beg for their miserable lives? Weaklings.”
The Burning Depths Necrolytes are members of the Cult of the Damned, mortal servants of the Lich King. They are drawing power from the bones of dead black dragons to fuel their necromantic operations, which is what provoked Serinar’s wrath.

“We will spare no one,” Serinar said. “Outside, lowly necrolytes and their skeletal servants shame my land with their presence. Slaughter them all.”
The shrine’s outer grounds crawled with them. Burning Depths Necrolytes in their dark robes, tending Smoldering Skeletons that clattered about on ember-lit bones. They were helping resurrect the wyrms here, desecrating dragon dead for the Scourge’s army.
The first necrolyte saw me coming and his eyes went wide. “Show mercy! I was just doing what I was told!”
They begged. Every single one of them begged. “Please, this isn’t how I was supposed to die!” and “Have pity!” and “You win, please, just let me go!” For all their dark robes and necromantic trappings, they were cowards, servants who’d sold themselves to the Lich King and discovered too late what that service actually meant.
The skeletons were simpler, mindless things held together by magic and spite, falling apart the moment that magic was disrupted. Honest enemies, in their way.
When the last necrolyte stopped pleading and the last skeleton stopped moving, I returned to Serinar.
“I see the blood on your hands. Is it done then? Did they beg for their miserable lives? Weaklings.”
I said nothing. They had begged. And I had killed them anyway.
The black dragonflight’s philosophy was no mercy for those who desecrate the dead. I was beginning to understand why the other flights kept their distance.
Serinar had one observation before sending him deeper, that the Cult of the Damned had not come to this shrine by accident but with The Best of Intentions, and those were about to become perfectly clear.
