“Another force threatens to destroy all that we have worked for.” Vas the Unstable had been twitching since morning, fingers sparking against his staff. “You must head westward to Stars’ Rest. Archmage Modera has sensed a great disturbance in the magical ley lines. It must be dealt with immediately.”
He directed me to Rodney Wells at the gryphon station. Wells listened to the mission briefing and nodded.
“We definitely don’t want another sundering, friend. I’ll do all that I can to help.”
Another sundering. Wells tossed the word out like a figure of speech. My people remembered it as ten thousand years of rebuilding from what was lost.
The flight west crossed the breadth of Dragonblight. Wintergarde fell away behind me, then the Dragon Wastes, then the frozen expanse between. Stars’ Rest appeared on the horizon as a cluster of night elf architecture among pines, all purple banners and moonlit spires against the snow.
Kaldorei architecture, the first I’d seen since Northrend.
Archmage Modera waited at the outpost’s heart. A member of the Council of Six, one of the most powerful mages alive, standing in the cold with her staff planted and her attention fixed on something I couldn’t see.
I could feel it in the air, like a note held too long, vibrating at the edge of hearing. Whatever was disturbing the ley lines, it was close.
Rodney Wells had the route drawn, because Archmage Modera had found something wrong in the ley lines out west that would not keep, and the call is To Stars’ Rest!
