The Cleansing of Jintha’kalar

Quest 2 of 2 in the Jintha'kalar Chain (Finale)
Alliance • Dragonblight • Level 74 • Light's Trust
Slay 15 Jintha'kalar Scourge in the ruins northeast of Light's Trust [88, 19].
Any Scourge mob in Jintha'kalar counts, including humanoid-flagged Drakkari Berserkers and Tormented Drakkari. Focus on the base of the stairs around [87, 23] and [90, 25] where density is highest. Grab Avenge this Atrocity! and End Arcanimus from Light's Trust to complete in the same pass. Casters: The Wand of Blinding Light (hit + haste + holy damage) is competitive into heroic dungeons and early Naxx.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
Valus said "all must be purged," and he meant all. Living trolls caught mid-conversion, still screaming as their souls were torn away, fell alongside the already dead under Vikstone's axe.

“We wrested this ancient Drakkari temple from a swarm of invading Scourge. Not more than one-hundred paces from where we stand is the ruined city of Jintha’kalar. Scourge necromancers run amok, turning the living Drakkari trolls that remain into servants of the Lich King.

All are now lost to the Light. All must be purged.

<Valus looks upon you sternly.>

All.”

Objective

LEVEL

74

Requires level

72

Crusader Valus at Light’s Trust in Dragonblight has asked you to slay 15 Jintha’kalar Scourge.

  • Jintha’kalar Scourge Slain (15)

Location of Jintha’kalar:
Coordinates: 88, 19, southeast of Light's Trust.
Head toward the stairs but stay on the ground level, heading right to find the mobs for this quest.
What Counts Toward the Quest:
Both undead Scourge and living members allied with the Scourge (like certain Drakkari trolls) count toward the kill requirement.
This reflects the moral ambiguity in Wrath of the Lich King’s storytelling, as you are tasked with killing even those resisting the Scourge.
Focus on the base of the stairs around [87, 23] and [90, 25] where density is highest.

Reward

You will also receive: (if completed at level 90)

5 Gold

60 Silver

Upon completion of this quest you will gain:

20,750 experience
250 reputation with Argent Crusade

Walkthrough

Quest Giver: Crusader Valus — Light’s Trust, Dragonblight [84, 27]

Objective: Slay 15 Jintha’kalar Scourge.

Quick Facts

Walkthrough

Head northeast from Light’s Trust into the ruins of Jintha’kalar [88, 19]. The Scourge mobs are concentrated around the base of the stairs leading up to Zul’Drak, spreading out to both sides around [87, 23] and [90, 25].

Kill any 15 of the eligible targets. The quest tracker doesn’t display individual mob names; anything flagged as “Jintha’kalar Scourge” counts.

Eligible targets include: Decrepit Necromancers, Hulking Atrocities, Reanimated Drakkari Tribesmen, Battered Drakkari Berserkers, and Tormented Drakkari. Despite the Drakkari Berserkers and Tormented Drakkari being classified as humanoids rather than undead, they still count toward the kill requirement.

Efficiency Tips

  • Focus on mobs at the base of the stairs where density is highest. No need to wander far up into the ruins.
  • If you also have Avenge this Atrocity! or End Arcanimus, complete them in the same pass through the ruins to save time.

Reward Notes

  • Casters: The Wand of Blinding Light (15 Hit, 17 Haste, 25 Spell Power, 181-337 Holy Damage) is an exceptional quest reward. The combination of hit rating and haste makes it competitive well into heroic dungeons and even early Naxxramas. The holy damage type is unique among wands and means no mob has innate resistance to it.
  • Stamina-focused casters: The Wand of Purifying Fire has one of the highest stamina values on any wand at the time, making it a strong PvP option.
  • Melee: Three melee weapons are available (dagger, fist weapon, and one-handed sword). Choose whichever fits your spec.

Lore Context

Crusader Valus’s quest text captures one of WotLK’s bleaker moments: “Scourge necromancers run amok, turning the living Drakkari trolls that remain into servants of the Lich King. All are now lost to the Light. All must be purged.”

The Argent Crusade considers even the surviving Drakkari trolls beyond saving, a grim pragmatism that pervades the war against the Lich King. The completion dialogue pivots towards hope, as Valus recruits you into the Argent Crusade’s cause: “To battle and die at the side of the Ashbringer.”

This reference to Tirion Fordring and the legendary blade foreshadows the Argent Crusade’s central role in the Icecrown campaign.

The follow-up quest, Into the Breach!, sends you northeast into Zul’Drak proper, where the devastation Valus described becomes fully visible. Note that Into the Breach is exclusive with Reallocating Resources from Grizzly Hills; only one of these breadcrumbs to Light’s Breach can be completed.

Warrior IconVikstone's War Journal

“We wrested this ancient Drakkari temple from a swarm of invading Scourge.” Valus gestured toward the ruins rising beyond Light’s Trust. “Not more than one-hundred paces from where we stand is the ruined city of Jintha’kalar. Scourge necromancers run amok, turning the living Drakkari trolls that remain into servants of the Lich King.”

He fixed me with a stern gaze.

“All are now lost to the Light. All must be purged. All.”

Jintha’kalar was a charnel house. Battered Drakkari Berserkers stumbled through the ruins, their bodies broken but still fighting on instinct. Tormented Drakkari howled with voices that weren’t entirely their own and decrepit Necromancers worked their craft on fresh corpses while Hulking Atrocities patrolled the perimeter. And everywhere, the newly Reanimated, still wearing the faces of who they’d been hours ago.

My axe didn’t discriminate and I couldn’t afford to leave anything for the Lich King to resurrect.

When I returned, Valus was lost in contemplation. “As you can see, the Scourge war machine presses onward, yet the armies of the Horde and the Alliance remain divided, making for easy prey. It is for this reason that we must remain united.”

He studied me with renewed interest.

“The Argent Crusade has use for a man like you. Perhaps you would be interested in joining our cause? To battle and die at the side of the Ashbringer?”

The Ashbringer. Tirion Fordring’s blade, a legend offering me a place in his war.

I’d think about it.

Valus offered a place at the side of the Ashbringer and the road to that war runs northeast, and the first step out of Dragonblight is Into the Breach!
